It was also issued separately. 1623, Italian text, 8vo, approximately 20 x 160 mm, 8½ x 6¼ inches, large woodcut title illustration of a seated African man with a boy, both holding sticks, the man with a parrot on his shoulder and some kind of fur cape over his back, 16 full page woodcut images depict hideous monsters and fabulous creatures, mainly part human, one shows a monstrous bird, C1v-D5r contain 13 full page woodcuts of natives of India, Africa and Arabia, plus 2 in text (a mother and small child, and a repeat of the title page image) of which 13 including the title page illustration and the 2 text images are by Hans Burgkmair and his workshop, on D7v is a full page woodcut of a tree with no caption or text, (64) pages, collation: A-D8, on D8r are the names of 2 editors: Uberto Fabro and Andrea Berna. Bound in late 19th century boards with stencilled blue and brown floral pattern, endpapers replaced in the rebinding. Carta geografica tratta dal rarissimo "Anfiteatro d'Europa" edito a Venezia nel 1623. Il libro, scritto con testo di Giovanni Doglioni, fu pubbicato dall'editore veneziano Giacomo Sarzina. Illustrato da una carta del mondo e 33 carte dell'Europa ne testo. Stranamente le mappe sono riprese da quelle che illustrano l'Epitome di Ortelius incise da Philip Galle e non da quelle dell'edizione piarat dlela stessa opera pubblictaa a Brescia da Pietro Marchetti. Si tratta pertanto di nuove lastre, che presentano picocle differenze rispetto a quelle del Marchetti, alle quali ad un primo esame assomigliano. L'opera non fu mai ristampata ed è pertanto rara. Incisione in rame, inserita nella pagina di testo descrittivo alla carta, fori di tarlo, per il ersto in buono stato di conservazione. Together with the text there are one world map and 33 maps of Europe. Oddly enough, these maps were realized after those shown in Ortelius Epitome, engraved by Philip Galle, and not after the pirate edition published by Pietro Marchetti in Venice. These are therefore new plates, presenting minor differences with those of Marchetti. The work has never been reissued and is quite rare. Von minimalen Bräunungen abgesehen: gut erhalten) "Aufgrund seiner Kinderlosigkeit gingen die Gebiete Ludwigs IV. 1604 an seine beiden Neffen, die Landgrafen von Hessen-Kassel und Hessen-Darmstadt, jedoch unter der von ihm verfügten Bedingung, dass der lutherische Bekenntnisstand erhalten bliebe. Streitigkeiten um diese Aufteilung sowie der von Landgraf Moritz von Hessen-Kassel vollzogene Wechsel zum reformierten Bekenntnis hatten einen jahrzehntelangen Erbstreit zwischen Hessen-Kassel und Hessen-Darmstadt zur Folge. Dieser kam zwar 1627 mit der Abdankung von Landgraf Moritz und der Abtretung Oberhessens an Hessen-Darmstadt zu einem vorläufigen Abschluss, lebte aber von 1645 bis 1648 im so genannten Hessenkrieg wieder auf." Verosimilmente intorno al 1560 si trasferì a Pisa, dove intraprese gli studi giuridici presso il locale ateneo e si addottorò in utroque iure il 14 febbr. 1565. Grazie all'interessamento di personaggi influenti come il cardinale genovese Benedetto Lomellini e dello stesso padre del M., il quale già qualche anno prima aveva avuto un contatto epistolare con il cardinale Carlo Borromeo arcivescovo di Milano, il M. fu chiamato da quest'ultimo presso la curia ambrosiana come vicario competente per le cause civili. Contents quite sound but with some soiling and other relatively minor wear, Old bookseller's label inside back cover (Geo. T. Bisel CCo. Law Publishers and Stationers). Published anonymously, originally in Latin (as "Dialogus de Fundamentis Legum Anglie et de Conscientia") in 1523 or 1528. English translations were first published in 1530 and 1531. The work served as an important handbook for law students until superseded by Blackstone's Commentaries in the mid-18th century.

1623. Carta geografica tratta dal rarissimo "Anfiteatro d'Europa" edito a Venezia nel 1623. Il libro, scritto con testo di Giovanni Doglioni, fu pubbicato dall'editore veneziano Giacomo Sarzina. Illustrato da una carta del mondo e 33 carte dell'Europa ne testo. Stranamente le mappe sono riprese da quelle che illustrano l'Epitome di Ortelius incise da Philip Galle e non da quelle dell'edizione piarat dlela stessa opera pubblictaa a Brescia da Pietro Marchetti. Si tratta pertanto di nuove lastre, che presentano picocle differenze rispetto a quelle del Marchetti, alle quali ad un primo esame assomigliano. L'opera non fu mai ristampata ed è pertanto rara. Incisione in rame, inserita nella pagina di testo descrittivo alla carta, fori di tarlo, per il ersto in buono stato di conservazione. Map from the very rare "Anfiteatro d'Europa" published in Venice in 1623. The book was written by Giovanni Doglioni and it was published by the Venetian Giacomo Sarzina. Together with the text there are one world map and 33 maps of Europe. Oddly enough, these maps were realized after those shown in Ortelius Epitome, engraved by Philip Galle, and not after the pirate edition published by Pietro Marchetti in Venice. These are therefore new plates, presenting minor differences with those of Marchetti. The work has never been reissued and is quite rare. Small 4to. (180 x 135mm), pp. [xxi], 14, [lxxxvii], 12-43, [xvii] (duplicate pagination). Parallel Anglo-Saxon and English texts. Misbound but lacking no leaves except the final blank; gatherings O-V misbound after a4 and before b1 (i.e. pi2, par.4, a4, O-V4 (-V4), b-f4, A-N4). Title-page laid down, paper repairs to several of the following leaves with some loss of text to bottom fore-edge corners of leaves pi2, par.1, a1, a3, O3, O4, f1; dampstaining and associated light marks, small tears to a few leaves made fragile by damp; single small wormhole through fore-edge margins. Early 19th-century brown calf, cathedral-style blind stamped tracery arch window centrepiece to each board, with similar motif to each spine compartment. Upper joint splitting at centre but holding firm, much rubbed with some light surface loss, marbled endpapers. "A testimony of antiquitie" and "A sermon of the Paschall Lambe, and of the sacramental body and bloud of Christ our Saviour" have separately dated title pages; "Here followeth the words of Elfrike Abbot of S. Albons" and "The Lords Prayer, the Creed, and the Ten commandements in the Saxon and English tongue" have divisional titles; register is continuous. "A testimony of antiquitie" was first printed separately by John Day ca. 1566. William L'Isle (c.1569-1637) was a pioneer in the study of Anglo-Saxon.
