The original 1611 first edition carried the initial misprint of "He". This 1613 volume/edition is considered by many to be the Second Edition. The original First Edition King James Bible (KJB) / King James Version (KJV) is the third translation of the Bible into English, which was first begun in 1604 then completed and printed as First Edition in 1611 (before English spelling was standardized), approved by English Church authorities, during the reign of King James I. BESLER, Basil (1561-1629)
Hand-coloured engraving, in good condition except for a 1'' repair to the right blank margin. A spectacular multi-flowered image: the essence of spring represented in a beautifully composed image from the first edition of the greatest botanical work from the pre-Linnaean era Basil Besler published "Hortus Eystettensis," the earliest large folio botanical, at Eichstatt near Nuremburg, in 1613. He worked on the drawings for the 374 copper engravings over a period of sixteen years using the plants in the garden of Bishop Johann Conrad von Gemmingen, his patron. Depicted in this florilegium were flowers, herbs, vegetables and newly discovered plants such as tobacco and peppers. Besler was, in modern terms, a botanist and horticulturalist, and he was familiar with real and alleged medicinal properties of various plants from medieval lore. Besler had the good fortune to live at a time when exotic plants were being shipped to Europe from all over the world. The garden that he organized and illustrated for his patron was both ornamental and experimental, and the large book he had engraved after his drawings was unique. The prints, made by a team of master engravers, are strong and exquisitely done. [Attributes: First Edition]

London: This rare unknown edition of the King James quarto remains in its original binding with gold borders and ornate corner pieces with 5 raised hubs on spine. The spine is slightly cracked on head and foot but remains well in tact and tightly bound. As it remains in its original binding the leaves are uncut with full wide margins and the scripture text collates 100% complete. This copy is first bound with the Book of Common Prayer lacking the title page so date is unknown. Next is found the Genealogies with title by JS wanting a few side notes on verso of The Christian Reader. The Genealogies then collate complete and then follows the two leaves of map ending in Finis. As this copy remains in tact in its original binding it truly appears to be a rare unknown copy of "The Bible" SHE version lacking the word Holy yet dated 1614/1613 in black letter. It contains the Book of Common Prayer, Genealogies, Map, Two Concordances and Whole Book of Psalms.Includes custom box. An unknown copy of the King James black letter quarto remaining in its original binding. The closest similar examples would be as follows: Herbert 324 reads "The Holy Bible" on General Title with both titles dated 1613 as well as colophon. Both titles have woodcut border with heart shaped center. The New Testament title omits the words "Appointed to be..." and contains the Genealogy and Map and is not black letter. In contrast this copy omits the word "Holy", is black letter, and General Title is dated 1614. Another copy under Herbert 324 is notated residing in BH and referred as a strangely mixed copy with … [Click Below for Full Description]

Folio (480 by 330 mm), engraved title heightened in gold, (3) pp, engraved portrait of Mercator and Hondius, (9) pp., 374 pp., 45 double-page engraved maps, engraved half title (Galliae) heightened in gold, 30 double-page and one single-page engraved maps, engraved half title (Germaniae) heightened in gold, 29 double-page engraved maps, engraved half title (Italiae, Slavoniae et Graeciae) heightened in gold, 45 double-page engraved maps, 18 ff, full original hand colour throughout, 150 maps in total, contemporary mottled calf, spine divided into seven sections with raised bands, gilt, restoration to capitals and lower back. A fine example of a great atlas. Gerard Mercator (1512-1594) would not begin his great 'Atlas' or 'Cosmography' until relatively late in life. The impetus for this came when he was employed as cosmographer to Duke William IV of Kleve, in 1563. Mercator's intention was to produce a work that consisted of five books and covered the whole world. The first book would cover the creation; the second the heavens; the third geography; the fourth history; and the fifth chronology. He intended to draw all the maps, write all the text, and cut all the plates himself. Unsurprisingly, the ambitious project would require more time than he could afford to give it, and he was only able to complete a few of the parts: the creation; the maps for Ptolemy's 'Geographia' - part of the geographical section - in 1578; and four of the modern parts. The first three were published together in 158 … [Click Below for Full Description]

Jacques de BELLANGE (Nancy 1594 - 1638)
[Click Below for Full Description]

ANDREINI, Giovanni Battista (1578-1650)
Milan: Geronimo Bordoni, 1613. 4to (221 x 165 mm). Engraved title, portrait, one engraved head-piece, one full-page and 38 half-page engravings by Cesare Bassano after Carlo Antonio Procaccini. 17th-century mottled calf, gilt spine. Short repaired tear in title and portrait, portrait slightly short, generally a very attractive copy in a near-contemporary binding. Provenance: purchased from E.P. Goldschmidt, 1962. FIRST EDITION, FIRST ISSUE, containing the portrait found only in some copies. Italian literary scholars have speculated that Andreini's play influenced Milton during his trip to Italy, and is therefore a primary source for Paradise Lost. "The action is grandiose. With the Biblical story which forms the groundwork of the picture are interwoven many extravagances and that spectacular display which so pleased the public" (Joseph Spencer Kennard, The Italian Theatre). The performance included fantastical sets, which are captured in Bassano's engravings after the designs of Carlo Antonio Procaccini. Vinciana called this 5-act play "the most significant work of theatre in the seventeenth century." The son of Francesco and Isabella Andreini, the most famous actors of their age, Andreini also acted, using the name Leylio in his comedic performances in Paris. BL 17th-Century Italian I, p. 32; Brunet I:269; Cicognara 1423; Sander 6381; Vinciana 4125. From the Collection of Arthur & Charlotte Vershbow.

Hessel GERRITSZ (1581-1632)
King James, Pilate's Letter to the cross and Hate all for Jesus Quatro 9x6.5 Retail $3895.00 with 40% discount now thru Dec 25th Jesus Hate Bible and Pilates Letter Bible Because the Greek New Testament was written in Koine Greek, certain words were mistranslated. One of the trickiest word was the Greek term miseo. The King James Bible translates this as "hate." Because of this, in Luke 14:26, Jesus tells his followers "If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple." Harsh. But according to scholars of Koine, miseo does not quite mean "hate." Instead, it means to separate from, or to prefer less. Jesus was not telling his followers to hate their fathers and mothers, rather, he was warning them that they had to place their dedication to faith above earthly bonds It is also called a Great Letter Bible because of the Book of John Chapter 19, Verse 19 mistakenly reads: "Pilate wrote a letter instead of Pilate wrote a title and put it on the cross" also contains a misprint of Emorite's instead of Amorite's in Genesis 10:16 . Bible Printing between 1613 and 1614 Mid December through Mid January Herbert notes it as "The true 1613 folio edition of King James' Bible; easily distinguishable from the other editions by its smaller type" resulting in 72 lines rather than 59. CHAMPLAIN, Samuel de (1567-1635)
Paris: Chez Pierre Le-Mur, 1613. Engraved map of Stage Harbor, from 'Les Voyages dv Sievr de Champlain', in excellent condition, map size: 6 x 9 1/2 inches, sheet size: 8 1/4 x 9 3/4 inches. A highly important map by Samuel de Champlain, and one of a series of the very first printed sea charts of North America This is a highly important and early map of what is now known as Stage Harbor, near Chatham, on Cape Cod, Massachusetts. It is one of a series of the very first printed sea charts of North America, devised by the great explorer Samuel de Champlain. From 1605 to 1606, Champlain explored the Massachusetts coast in search of a location to build a settlement that might be even better than the existing French base of Port Royal, that was establish in the spring of 1605 in Nova Scotia. In October, 1606 Champlain's pinnace became trapped on the shoals while rounding Cap Blanc (Cape Cod). The damaged ship made it down to Stage Harbor where for two weeks the men worked to repair the rudder of the ship. The local Monomoyick tribe did not take kindly to their presence, with the result that a few French sailors were killed. By this point, the ship had been repaired and Champlain ordered a hasty departure. The party then explored Nantucket Sound, but on their way back north they decided to visit the bay again to take revenge on the natives. However this sortie was unsuccessful, resulting in a few more Frenchmen losing their lives. Champlain then left the region for the relative security of Port Royal. Why the name 'port. fortuné' was given to such an improvident location … [Click Below for Full Description]

Engraved map of Gloucester, Massachusetts, from 'Les Voyages dv Sievr de Champlain', in excellent condition, map size: 6 x 9 1/2 inches, sheet size: 8 1/4 x 10 inches. A highly important map by Samuel de Champlain, one of a series of the very first printed sea charts of North America This is a highly important map of what is now known as Stage Harbor, near Chatham, on Cape Cod, Massachusetts. Philip Burden describes it as "one of the finest in the series" of what were the very first printed sea charts of North America, devised by the great explorer Samuel de Champlain. It is also the earliest map of this region. From 1605 to 1606, Champlain explored the Massachusetts coast in search of a location to build a settlement that might be even better than the existing French base of Port Royal, that was established in the spring of 1605 in Nova Scotia. Champlain's pinnace sailed into what later became known as Gloucester Harbor in September, 1606. The party stayed in the port for a few days, and found the location to be physically most agreeable for a potential settlement. However, they soon found the disposition of the indigenous peoples to be remarkably hostile, a problem that would ultimately drive the Frenchman away from the region all together. The harbour dominates the centre of the map, which is protected by a long narrow peninsula. Champlain's ship is shown anchored in the middle of the bay, at the head of a trail of depth soundings that lead to the mouth of the bay, where the map is adorned with an elegant compass rose. BESLER, BASILIUS
Prijs: Euro2.150,- (incl. lijst).

London: Robert Barker, 1613. VERY RARE FIRST EDITION 1612 KING JAMES 'hee' Bible The 1612 was the first edition of the KJB to be printed in the quarto size for personal use, and was the first to use Roman type. As it was preceded only by the 1611 folio or pulpit size edition, the very early 1612 printings still contained the printer's typos - including 'hee' at Ruth 3:15 and 'Emorite' instead of Amorite at Genesis 10:16, as this one does. Because they were meant for personal use and thus heavily used, (much more so than the folio edition) most of the relatively very few copies of this very first printing that have survived are in rough condition and missing some, if not all of the preliminary pages. This one is complete! A correct original John Speed's map of Canaan from another 1612 First Edition is included. That means that ALL of the preliminaries are present in this bible - making this a quite rare 407 year old survivor! This is Herbert #313, and is dated 1612 on the general title, 1612 on the New Testament title page, 1612 at the end of Revelation and 1612 on the title to 'Psalmes Collected into English' - for a total of 4 times! (Unlike some others on Ebay), this is a TRUE 1612 printed and originally bound in 1612! Condition: See pictures - Well used with expected edge chipping, especially to the preliminary and final pages , some with minor text loss. Damp stains as well as darkening. Part of the 'Psalms Collected' is mistakenly bound in between James 4 and 1 Peter. Remarkably few ink inscriptions on text pages, however typical inscriptions on blank pages - One is a … [Click Below for Full Description]

His poems are in Homeric hexameters and show his interest in ethics and systematization. His work was known throughout antiquity to rhapsodes, scholars and schoolboys. Leo Baeck Institut I, A 976: "Zweiter Abdruck der ältesten Stättigkeit der Frankfurter Juden.
