Incisione in rame, (mm 400x480 alla battuta) acquarellata. Bell'esemplare, antico restauro al margine inferiore che non lede minimamente la battuta del rame. Basilius Besler (1561-1629) botanico - farmacista pubblicò l'Hortus Eystettensis a Eichstätt vicino a Norimberga nel 1613. Si tratta di un erbario figurato di straordinaria bellezza, il tratteggio e l'effetto dei chiaro scuro dell'incisione donano plasticità e tridimensionalità alle piante, sono disposte in modo elegante artisticamente rivolte dalla parte più estetica, inoltre rappresenta le radici delle piante come sono realmente, nei particolari, con tale enfasi da chiedersi se non avesse abbracciato la teoria di Cesalpino, che diceva che nelle piante si poteva vedere la forma del corpo umano capolvolta. Le tavole saranno successivamente acquarellate da abili coloristi. Il paziente lavoro di Besler fu intrapreso in un periodo di sedici anni, usando, come modello per i suoi disegni, le piante del giardino dei semplici del vescovo - principe Johann Konrad Von Gemmingen, presso cui lavorava, che trasformò in un esempio di bellezza ornamentale. Le raffinate 374 tavole (con testo a fronte furono inserite in ordine cronologico dalla primavera all'autunno sulla base della fioritura) furono incise da un team di importanti incisori, quali Heinrich Ulrich. In-4° (cm. 20), legatura del XX secolo in p. pelle rossa con piatto anteriore inquadrato da cornici in oro e a secco, titolo in oro al dorso, dentelles, risguardi in carta decorata; pp. [8] in ottimo stato con vignetta al frontespizio; carte bianche in fine aggiunte dal legatore G. Bramante di Novara; segni e correzioni antiche. Edizione originale, che differisce dalla contraffazione di Salani del 1866 per via di alcuni errori di stampa, qui tra l'altro anticamente corretti con inchiostro (cfr. Razzolini-Bacchi della Lega 18). «Rarissimo. Per isbaglio di stampa manca nel frontispizio la voce Poderaio» [Gamba 30] che in questo es. è anticamente manoscritta. Il fiorentino Allegri (1560-1629), oltre a proporre una lettera per Dante, si fingeva contadino per cantare il suo amore istintivo e sensuale per una donna. Per il nome dello stampatore cfr. BL Italian 17th cent., I, 22; per l'autore Melzi I, 22. Secondo alcuni il testo faceva coppia con Lettere di Ser Poi Pedante nella Corte de' Donati [A. With explanatory title above the city and written in a cartouche on the bottom left of the plate: 'LIBERAE ET HANSE- ATICAE VRBIS DAVE TRIE SIS DELINEATI'. The city crest of Zwolle is depicted in the top right corner and a blank crest in the left corner. ca. 1613. Overall size: 29,1 x 38,8 cm; plate size: 24 x 32 cm. Very good state. Some age related discolouration. Handlaid paper with a fold in the middle. This print originates from 'Lodovico Guicciardini, Descrittione di tutti i Paesi bassi (...), Amsterdam, Blaeu, 1613'. This was an influential account of the history and the arts of the Low Countries, accompanied by city maps by various leading engravers. Deys 2001.

Le prime 18 carte, contenenti il "Laconismo vitale circa l'Autore", la dedicatoria dello stampatore ai Lettori, il "Privilegio", liriche e sonetti encomiastici di Giovan Pietro Bacchetta, Bartolomeo Tortelletti, Pietro Petracci, Domenico Carrega, Pietro Capello, la Tavola de gli Autori" e la prima parte dell'"Indice della Sacra Scrittura" sono in riproduzione fotostatica su carta d'epoca. Alcune carte brunite.
