CAJETAN THOMAS.
Apud Dominicum Farreum, 1584. 34Thomas Cajetan Tommaso de Vio Cajetan 1469-1534 Dominican cardinal philosopher theologian and exegete. 3434As General of his order 1508-18 Cardinal 1517 and Bishop of Gaeta 1519 he played an important part in ecclesiastical affairs urging the cause of reform before the fathers of the Lateran Council of 1512 reasoning with Luther in 1518 contributing to the elections of the Emp. Finding that Humanists and Protestants alike were making polemical use of the Scriptures he subsequently turned to Biblical exegesis for which he sought the assistance of scholarly philologists and his commentaries on the Bible contain much enlightened criticism of an unexpectedly modern kind. To Clement VII he was the lamp of the Church and everywhere in his career as the theological light of Italy he was heard with respect and pleasure by cardinals universities the clergy nobility and people.3434--Cross Oxford Dict. of the Christian Church p.216. The Catholic Ency. presents Cajetan as 3434Always obedient and submitting his works to ecclesiastical authority he presented a striking contrast to the leaders of heresy and revolt whom he strove to save from their folly.3434--Catholic Ency. 1913 II147. 3434In 1518 he was sent as legate to th … [Click Below for Full Description]

S.l., né ed. (ma Parigi o Lione), 1584. 3 parti in un vol. in-8 (mm 138x90), ff. (5), pp.198 (l'ult. err. num. 968); ff. Prima edizione collettiva di questi ''oscenissimi Ragionamenti'' (Papanti), rarissima, impressa in car. corsivo a Parigi o forse a Lione o a Venezia. This was advised by medical reports, and so the cloister believed and the King favorably sent the petition and granted him the substitute for three years, in addition to the extension requested for another three years on November 27, 1596. The Provincial Chapter of Castile, celebrated in 1598, chose him definidor of the province. However, one year later, on December 5, 1599, he died in Valladolid, leaving vacant the position of Definitor and the Chair of the Bible. Legatura in tutto marocchino giansenista verde, dorso a nervi con autore, titolo, data incisi in oro al dorso. Ampia merlatura interna in oro. GRISONE, Federico
1584. I am limited to 12 photos on eBay, but I have many more photos on my website...just ask. "From the first it seems that every horse obeys his signal, such that those who watch are amazed." -- Pasquale Caracciolo, La Gloria del Cavallo (on Grisone) An extremely rare 16th-century work on horses, cattle-herding, and farming by Frederico Grisone. This book, "The Rules of Horsemanship" was the first book published on horse riding in modern Europe! Grisone was one of the first masters of dressage and teacher of courtly horse riding; many of his training methods influenced horse training and were used all over Europe. However, many of the criticisms he received were of his harsh treatment of horses, and severe spurring, often bordering on animal cruelty to subdue the horse. Other infamous examples of this training method include placing a hedgehog under the animal's tail, or forcing the horse's head under water to the point of drowning. [Attributes: First Edition]

WOLF Hieronymus
1584. 2 wooduts in text. 5 parts in one vol. Folio (310 x 200mm. ). German blind-stamped pigskin over wooden boards, the upper cover with portrait of Duke Ludwig III of Wurttemberg and the initials 'A N L' with date 1588, and the lower cover having the arms of the city of Wurttemberg (Haebler II, 93, IX u. X), the two covers decorated blind-stamped rolls with heads of Erasmus, Luther and others enclosing the central panel, spine lettered in ms., edges coloured blue. A finely bound copy with a portrait panel stamp of Duke Ludwig III of Wurrttemberg, from the library of Major Abbey. This commentary on Cicero's De officiis by the Augsburg based scholar, translator, and librarian Hieronymus Wolf (1516-1580) was first published in 1563 by Oporinus, and the subsequent sections a few years later. The compilation was several times reprinted. There are a few underlinings and one marginal note in Greek at col. 90 of Laelius, which translate - 'You must love as if about to hate but hate as if about to love'. Below the colophon on the last leaf are written 3 words in Hebrew letter. Wolf is chiefly known for his work on Greek writers ranging from Isocrates to the Byzantine historians, but this detailed commentary on some of the philosophical or ethical works of Cicero, most notably what our Elizabethan forebears called Tullie's Offices, shows his mastery of Latin scholarship. He was also the Fugger librarian and himself the possessor of a considerable library, some parts of which are located in Munich. Provenance: armorial bookplate of Vincenzo Peruzzi (1789- after 1847), gonfaloniere o … [Click Below for Full Description]
