ARTÉMIDORE d'ÉPHÈSE
Nicolas Bonsons, Paris 1576 - Plein veau pastiche Un volume in-16 (116x70 mm), 89-(6)-49 feuillets .
Dimensioni circa 292x215. Hollstein IV p. 190, 512-514; A. Baroni Vannucci, pp. 354 /355, 685, 7/12. The most important work Stradano produced for the Medicean tapestry was the realization of the cartoons for the 28 arrases cycle with hunting scenes, which were intended to be hung in the Poggio a Caiano Villa (1567). These engravings belong to the most ancient production after Stradano’s drawings, realized by Hieronimus Cock.He had the farsightedness to understand that this work would have had great success, so he signed a contract with Stradano to have a considerable amount of drawings. The most ancient ser … [Click Below for Full Description]

BLONDEL, Antoine
Douai: Jacques Boscare, 1576. FIRST AND ONLY EDITION. Woodcut printer's device on title, woodcut tailpieces. Contemporary calf, elaborate gilt embossing including a decorative lozenge on front and back covers inscribed "EN ESPERAT I DE CORTEVVILLE DESIRE FAICTIA CUIR M LXXVII," spine in compartments, front hinge reinforced, with elegant gauffered edges. Overall a spectacular binding and copy of an incredibly rare work. First and only (?) printing of this compilation of poetry in French and Latin with some additional verses in Italian and Flemish, a rare and unique example of a humanistic pursuit. The first twenty-four pages offer humorous sonnets and verses by Antoine Blondel and authors involved with his local poetic society (see below). Some of these poems lightly poke fun at Blondel and generally the various genres and forms of poetry. The volume is dedicated to Mademoiselle Marie d'Espinoy; nineteenth-century historians debated her identity, suggesting two possible sixteenth-century women: Philippotte Christine (also known as Marie-Philippine, Philippe-Chretienne, or Marie-Christine) de Lalaing (1454-1582), wife of Pierre de Melun (d. 1594), Prince of Epinoy; or Marie de Melun (d. 1634), daughter of Hugues de Melun (1520-1553), Prince of Epinoy, who married Lamoral (1563-1624), Prince of Ligne, a knight of the order of the Golden Fleece (Souvenirs de la Flandre wallonne, 50). The Antoine Blondel credited for this text was almost certainly the esteemed knight Antoine Blondel II (d. 1603), Baron de Cuinchy, Lord of Manicourt, Ghore, Villers-au-Bois, Saulchoy, V … [Click Below for Full Description]

Frontalini e capilettera incisi. Dedicatoria a D. Molino. PRIMA EDIZIONE dell'opera (cfr. [Attributes: Hard Cover]

Porcacchi Da Castiglione, Tommaso
Greece: Venice Simone Galignani & Girolamo Porro. 1576. Copper engrved map showing the site of the Battle of Lepanto, the Gulf of Korinth and the coast. north to Prevesa and of the Peloponesus; by Girolamo Porro from Porcacchi's " L'Isole piu Famose del Mondo" 1576 2nd edition [ 1st 1572]. Set in a page of descripive Italian text [page 85], with decorative, woodcut headpiece and historiated initial. Single page. folio, text to verso. Good impression. good margins. Minor dampstaining to upper corners of leaf. The battle of Lepanto between the Christians and the Turks took place in 1571, one year before Porcacchi first published his Isolario, so was very topical at the time. The two fleets met near the islands called by the Venetians "Curzolari"[modern day Oxia] and even called the victory that of the Battle of Curzolari, hence the title on this map. Porcacchi also mentions the ancient history of the area and the earlier battle of Actium between Octavian and Cleopata with Mark Anthony which took place near Prevesa, and where was built the Roman town of Nicopoli to celebrate the victory. Tomasso Porcacchi da Castiglione first published his Isolario in 1572 in Venice, The maps were engraved by Girolamo Porro. whilst Porcacchi provided the descriptions. Exner, Balthasar
Pergamentband, Rotschnitt, nachgebunden, xvi, 426 Seiten, gutes Papier, sorgfältiger Satz, Schmuckinitalen und Schmuckbordüren. Exlibris Galauner auf Innentitel und Seite 420. Handschriftliche Einträge auf dem Vorsatz. 14,5 x 7,5. [Click Below for Full Description]

CUQ
[Click Below for Full Description]

This evaluation and rebuttal of the decrees of the Council of Trent was originally published in Latin in four volumes between 1566 and 1573. The work had ten more editions until the end of the century, and numerous reprints later, the last, dating from 1861 (Berlin). The work had greater impact, greater readership, and brought Chemnitz greater fame than anything else he produced in his life.&ldquo,The preparation of the Examen absorbed Chemnitz' leisure for the next nine years. By the end of March 1565 he had worked out the first part sufficiently to send it to a colleague in Frankfurt/M., Martin Ritter, with the request to find a publisher. On Christmas Eve of that year Chemnitz was still reading proof and finding &lsquo, manifold and most horrible errors'. The following spring the first part came out, dedicated to Duke Albert Frederick [of Prussia], the youthful son of Duke Albert the Elder. … [Click Below for Full Description]
