Letterpress general title and two section titles, 1p. errata at back. 64 double-page engraved maps (28 according to Ptolemaic geography including 1 world map, 36 'modern' maps including 2 world maps and 7 others relating to the Americas), 12 woodcut illustrations or diagrams, woodcut printer's device on titles, and verso of the third world map "Carta Marina nuova tavola" (minor staining at lower corners in the first part of the Geografia section, minor worming at inner margins touching the first few maps of the final part of the Geografia). Contemporary vellum over pasteboard. Housed in a modern black morocco- backed box, spine gilt. Important first edition of Ruscelli's Italian translation of Ptolemy's Geographia, with the original maps superbly re- engraved and enlarged and with new maps added: a pleasing, unsophisticated copy in contemporary vellum. This "new and important edition" (Sabin) of Ptolemy also includes the first publication of Ruscelli's own Espositioni et Introduttioni Universali… sopra tutta la Geografia di Tolomeo. "Neue Uebersetzung aus einem Manuscript, dessen Lesarten Cornarius in den Eclogis angegeben hat. (iv) + 9-102 leaves, large printer's device on the last page, title vignette, over 80 splendid technical woodcuts in the text, Melanchthon's Preface removed by the censor as usual, TOGETHER WITH Antonii Galatei: De Situ Elementorum, 143 + (8) leaves, published in Basle, 1558, AND Johannes Mercurius, Divisio Vocabuli Astronomiae, (ii) + 48 pages, the 6 page preface again removed by the censor, published in Basle in 1548; all 3 items bound as one in early limp vellum with some slight marking but o/w vg, endpapers worn, internally surprisingly crisp and good. Sacrobosco, a 12th century mathematician, is believed to have been born in Halifax. He spent most of his life in Paris. Impresa tipografica in xilografia al frontespizio. Qualche consueta brunitura, restauri al margine inferiore bianco del frontespizio. Un timbro di biblioteca al titolo. Bell'esemplare. Prima edizione dell'antologia di oratori greci, latini ed italiani curata da Remigio Nannini; accanto a volgarizzamenti da Dione Cassio, Senofonte, Dionigi di Alicarnasso, Curzio Rufo, Appiano, Tito Livio, Sallustio, Egesippo, Procopio di Cesarea, Saxo Grammaticus (sono incluse alcune traduzioni di brani del Gesta Danorum concernenti Amleto, probabilmente la prime versione assoluta in una lingua moderna della fonte storica dell'Amleto shakespeariano), Leonardo Aretino, Poggio Fiorentino, Paolo Emilio da Verona, Machiavelli, Bernardo Corio, Agostino Giustiniano, Galeazzo Capella, Paolo Giovio. Curiosa l'omissione dal frontespizio del nome del Machiavelli, i cui brani dalle Istorie Fiorentine non sono preliminarmente indicati a causa del sospetto che già avvolgeva le opere dello scrittore fiorentino. Remigio Fiorentino (Remigio Nannini) fu scrittore domenicano vissuto tra il 1521 e il 1581. A Paris, De l'imprimerie de Michel de Vascosan, 1561. Grand in-folio, 10 ff.n.ch., 756 pp., 34 ff.n.ch., veau brun, filet doré autour des plats, chiffre au centre, dos plat à nerfs, orné de filets et de fleurons dorés, tranches dorées (Reliure du début du XVIIè siècle). Traduction du tome premier des Annales de Zonaras, historien byzantin du 12è siècle. Première édition de cette traduction faite par Jean de Maumont, érudit, ami de Jules Scaliger, et dont les connaissances dans les langues anciennes et la théologie étaient très grandes. Il entreprit cette traduction à la demande de Catherine de Médicis. Seule parut la traduction du tome premier. Bel exemplaire, entèrement réglé, dans une reliure légèrement postérieure, au chiffre (différent sur chacun des plats, comme il en avait l'habitude), de Denis de Sallo, sieur de la Coudraye, né en 1626, fondateur du célèbre " Journal des Savants ". Colbert, qui l'estimait beaucoup, lui donna une haute situation dans les finances dont il ne profita pas beaucoup, car il mourut d'apoplexie peu après, en 1669. Los márgenes de las primeras 17 hojas y de las 11 últimas restaurados de unas pequeñas galerías de polilla, que sólo tocan tres o cuatro letras. Alguna hoja algo corta de margen superior y exterior.
