Niccolò ROSSIGLIANI detto "Il Vicentino" (Attivo a Vicenza 1540-50)
L'Andreani, celebratissimo in vita, fu invece severamente giudicato in seguito. Chiaroscuro woodcut, printed with three blocks, 1550 circa, after a subject of Parmigianino. Example in the second state of two, with the monogram of Andrea Andreani. Magnificent work, printed with two blocks on contemporary laid paper without watermark, with margins, small restoration perfectly executed along the marginal left line, in very good conditions. Vicentino measured himself with the technique of chiaroscuro, invented and patented by Ugo da Carpi in 1516, with great success. His subjects were very often taken from the works of Parmigianino. In the first state of this particular work the artist put the initials FP as homage to the ar … [Click Below for Full Description]

Alexandro, Alexandri Ab [1461 - 1523].
Parisiis [Paris]: Apud Ioannem Roigny vi Iacobea, sub insigni Basilisci, & Quatuor Elementorum. 1550. Early edition, 1st published in 1522. Not in Adams, though see entry 721 for a 1549 edition by Roigny. 76], 370 pp. T.p. woodcut device, "Prelum Ascensianum". Folio: a - e^6 f^8 A - 2H^6 [- 2H6, a blank]. 12-3/4" x 8-1/2". Contemporaneous binding, composed of waste vellum which shows a faint hint of manuscript lettering. Title hand-inked to spine, as well as text-block bottom edge. Cords visible. Remnants of leather ties to covers' 3 edges. General soiling to binding. Wear to spine ends. Age-toning to paper. Very minor worming to lower margin at rear of text block. A solid VG copy. Item #33756 Alexandro, Italian jurist of Naples, studied law at Naples and Rome, later practicing in both cities. Subsequently, he became dissatisfied with the corrupt administration of justice, quiting the bar & devoting himself to literary pursuits. His "Genial Days" discusses his growing disgust with pervasive injustice, ignorance & arbitrary disregard of the laws, citing several cases as examples. The work also touches on religious matters, government, grammar & textual criticism, superstition social customs, military affairs, history & philosophy, and even Roman antiquities. This work a popular one, and here we offer an early 16th C edition, in an interesting period binding, of the widely circulated title, which went through many editions during the 16th & 17th C., especially in Italy & France.

Robert Stephanus
THERE IS A STORY BEHIND EVERY BLEMISH! Bible leaf collectors know that some leaves are hard to look at and others look as new as the day they left the printing press. The condition of a particular leaf reflects its history and is not an indication of its actual value. Perfect leaves are ones that have seen little or no use over the centuries in contrast to those that are scarred by the ravages of time. Unblemished leaves are unloved leaves because they have had little contact with sinners. Imperfect leaves tell a story. Some are torn and ripped and worn away by excessive use while others have burns or worm holes and still others are water stained by flood and sometimes even tears. Each ugly mark or stain is in fact a beautiful witness to the Word of God, which, "liveth and abideth forever." We offer Bible leaves as we acquire them letting their condition speak for themselves. All our leaves are sold as seen on eBay. You may request additional images and information for any leaf. Choice Leaves - Finer than Gold - From the Word of God Taste and see! APULEIO - FIRENZUOLA Agnolo
appresso Gabriel Giolito de Ferrari, In Vinegia, 1550. In-12, ff. 140. Segnatura: A-M12. Robert Estienne (Stephanus). 1550 Stephanus Novum Testamentum. The Greek New Testament. Editio Regia. Textus Receptus. Printed by Robert Stephanus, Paris. Royal Edition Folio 13” x 8-3/4”. Fine Leather binding, newly bound in one handsome volume by Starr Bookworks. Crisp, clean, bright pages, some light foxing, some notes in margins All pages present, possibly missing last blank page. Beautiful display of the “Editio Regia”. The History of the 1550 Stephanus Greek New Testament. Robert Estienne, typographer and scholar, also known as Robert Stephani, or Stephanus in Latin, was born in Paris, France 1503-1559; son of the famous printer Henri Estienne. In 1526, after the death of his father, Robert took over the printing shop. While working in Paris during the rule of King Francis I, Robert established himself as the “Royal Typographer”, the “Printer in Greek to the king” because he printed many Greek editions of classical authors, grammatical works, and other schoolbooks. But Stephanus is most famous for his printing of religious texts such as: the entire Hebrew Bible, 1539-43; and his four editions of the Greek New Testament, 1546, 1549, 1550, 1551. Since the printing of Erasmus’ Greek New Testaments in 1516-1535, there had been no debate or challenge of the textual purity of the Greek text. The Reformation was in full force and the “Textus Receptus”, the “Received Text” although that term was not coined until 1633, was Erasmus’ Greek. Christianity, namely the Protestants of the Reformation, were more concerned with theology rather than textual criticism, until 1546 when Ro … [Click Below for Full Description]

With woodcut title vignette and 52 woodcuts in the text (13 of which are full-page). - (Bound with) II: Dietrich, Veit. (Nuremberg, Johann vom Berg and Ulrich Neuber), 1553. (246) pp. With woodcut title border. Contemporary roll-tooled pigskin over wooden boards with bevelled edges and two brass clasps. This devotional book is especially significant due to the outstanding woodcut illustrations by the eminent German artists Lucas Cranach the Elder, Hans Brosamer, Anton Woensam, and others, including the famous portrait of the Wittenberg printer Georg Rhau at the age of 60. This edition of the "Hortulus" was first printed by Rhau in 1547, and later in a smaller edition in 8vo. This is the larger (4to) edition. It contains a catechism, an explanation of the Lord's Prayer, by Melanchthon, the "Lobgesang" "Ein Kindelein so loebelich / ist uns geboren heute / von einer Jungfraw seuberlich / zu trost uns armen Leuten", with commentary; other pieces for Christmas, and on the Passion. Hans Ladenspelder (Essen 1521 - 1561)
[Click Below for Full Description]
