SAM, Konrad).
O.O. u. Dr. (Augsburg, Ph. Ulhart), 1526. Kl.-4to. 8 Bl. Moderner Umschlag.
[Click Below for Full Description]

NEVIZANUS Joannes
[Colophon:] (Impressa Lugduni: per Ioannem Moylin alias de Cambray, 1526). In-8 (185x130 mm.), cc. CCLXXXIX, (1). Segnatura: A-2M8; 2N10. Frontespizio con cornice floreale, in rosso e nero. Testo in carattere gotico bicolonnato. Legatura in piena pergamena floscia, sguardie rinnovate. [Attributes: Hard Cover]

ERASMUS
1526. Title within fine historiated woodcut border, white-on-black woodcut initials and headpieces, some lettering in Greek and Hebrew. Sm. 8vo (157 x 105mm). 332pp. [6]ff. Contemporary blind-tooled calf over thin paste-boards, covers with wide ornamental roll on all four sides enclosing a central panel of two lines of a narrower ornamental roll, spine with three raised bands, paper label at head (a little wear to head and foot of spine and corners). (Cologne), Eucharius Cervicornus excudebat (impensa Godefridi Hittorpii, 7 August), 1526. The Fürstenberg copy of an early edition of Erasmus' most famous work, found here in a superbly preserved contemporary blind-tooled binding. The Praise of Folly was written by Erasmus in little over a week in 1509 as a diversion to a kidney complaint that he was suffering from while staying at the London home of Thomas More. The idea of universal folly had been conceived by Erasmus while crossing the Alps on his way from Italy to England taking as inspiration all he had seen in recent years, the idea then developed into this masterpiece of satire. ?The Praise of Folly is Erasmus' best work. He wrote other books, more erudite, some more pious - perhaps of equal or greater influence on his time. But each had its day. Moriae Encomium alone was to be immortal. For only when humour illuminated his mind did it become truly profound. In the Praise of Folly Erasmus gave something that no one else could have given to the world.? (J. Huizinga, Erasmus, ch. IX, p. 78). Provenance: From the Court Library of the Fürstenbergs at Donaueschingen, stamp on … [Click Below for Full Description]

As in the Roman edition, the author disguises himself under the pseudonym of Pietropaulo de San Chirico, and the volume opens with his dedicatory epistle to his friend Borgianni Baronci da Narni, written in Rome on 27 August 1526. The Capitolo del Gioco della Primiera is part of a long literary tradition built around card games which also includes Matteo Boiardo's early Tarot poetry, the invective against tarot games by Alberto Lollio, and verses on cards by such authors … [Click Below for Full Description]

Martin Luther
Melchior Lotter. THERE IS A STORY BEHIND EVERY BLEMISH! Bible leaf collectors know that some leaves are hard to look at and others look as new as the day they left the printing press. The condition of a particular leaf reflects its history and is not an indication of its actual value. Perfect leaves are ones that have seen little or no use over the centuries in contrast to those that are scarred by the ravages of time. Unblemished leaves are unloved leaves because they have had little contact with sinners. Imperfect leaves tell a story. Some are torn and ripped and worn away by excessive use while others have burns or worm holes and still others are water stained by flood and sometimes even tears. Each ugly mark or stain is in fact a beautiful witness to the Word of God, which, "liveth and abideth forever." We offer Bible leaves as we acquire them letting their condition speak for themselves. All our leaves are sold as seen on eBay. You may request additional images and information for any leaf. Choice Leaves, Finer than Gold, from the Word of God Taste and see! It's sweeter than honey!! : Giovanni Giorgio Trissino
1526. I am limited to 12 photos on eBay, but I have many more photos on my website...just ask. 1526 RARE La Sophonisba Trissino Italian Renaissance Tragedy Punic Wars Theatre An early printing of Trissino's famous tragedy La Sophonisba. Gian Giorgio Trissino (1478 - 1550), also called Giovan Giorgio Trissino, was an Italian Renaissance humanist, poet, dramatist, diplomat, and grammarian. In the history of modern European literature Trissino occupies a prominent place because of his tragedy Sophonisba (c. 1515; published 1524). Based on the life of the Carthaginian lady Sophonisba and inspired by ancient tragedies, it was perhaps the first tragedy in early modern times to show deference to the classic rules. It served as an example for European tragedies throughout the 16th century. Sophonisba (fl. 203 BC) was a Carthaginian noblewoman who lived during the Second Punic War, and the daughter of Hasdrubal Gisco Gisgonis (son of Gisco). In an act that became legendary, Sophonisba poisoned herself rather than be humiliated in a Roman triumph.
