Francesco Maria Mazzola detto PARMIGIANINO (Parma 1503 â€" Casal Maggiore 1540)
Acquaforte e bulino, 1526 circa. Rispetto allo Sposa … [Click Below for Full Description]

Wittemberg: Melchior Lotter, 1526. THERE IS A STORY BEHIND EVERY BLEMISH! Bible leaf collectors know that some leaves are hard to look at and others look as new as the day they left the printing press. The condition of a particular leaf reflects its history and is not an indication of its actual value. Perfect leaves are ones that have seen little or no use over the centuries in contrast to those that are scarred by the ravages of time. Unblemished leaves are unloved leaves because they have had little contact with sinners. Imperfect leaves tell a story. Some are torn and ripped and worn away by excessive use while others have burns or worm holes and still others are water stained by flood and sometimes even tears. Each ugly mark or stain is in fact a beautiful witness to the Word of God, which, "liveth and abideth forever." We offer Bible leaves as we acquire them letting their condition speak for themselves. All our leaves are sold as seen on eBay. You may request additional images and information for any leaf. Choice Leaves, Finer than Gold, from the Word of God Taste and see! It's sweeter than honey!! AUGUSTINE, Saint.
Rare first and only edition of a highly original selection of fragments from the works of Saint Augustine (354-430) assembled by an unknown humanist with the clear intention of defending the Catholic faith against the numerous kinds of reformers and heretics active in northern Europe in those days, and to bring back straying believers to the true faith. The compiler of this anthology, who dated his preface 23 March [1526?], has not been identified, but Albert Paffraet (d. 1553), the son of the more famous printer Richard Paffraet, published many books by contemporary humanists such as Erasmus, Murmellius, Reuchlin and Angelo Poliziano, including both pamphlets inspired by the ideas of the Reformation and defences of the traditional faith. With owers inscriptions and stamps. With some small wormholes in the last few leaves, but otherwise in very good condition. The binding has been repaired, with a paper board replacing the back wooden board but covered by the original calf and the manuscript pastedown, three old patches on and near the spine (with the loss of the headbands) and the joints cracked. An interesting selection of fragments from the works of Saint Augustine.KVK & WorldCat (2 copies); NK 148 (2 copies); STCN (1 copy); USTC (4 copies, some no longer located); for the woodcut border: NAT V, 21..

Parisius: officina Cl. Chevallonii, 1526. I am limited to 12 photos on eBay, but I have many more photos on my website...just ask. Michel Menot was a 15th-century French monk who is remembered primarily for his sermons. While teaching theology in the Convent of the Cordeliers, he developed a reputation as a bizarre preacher using macaronic languages which, during the 18th-century, was criticized and made fun of by Voltaire. The majority of Menot's sermons focus on preaching from the Bible and clarifying the word of God.

Pantaleone die Confienza (Confluentia).
(Lyon, Antoine Blanchard [and Laurent Hyllaire], 7 Jan. 1525 [= 1526]). Small 4to (20 x 14 cm). XXXVIII, [2] ff. Title-page with a 4-piece woodcut border (using material from Laurent Hylaire). Modern limp sheepskin parchment. Third edition of a collection of three medical and gastronomical texts by two 15th-century Italian physicians. All were published separately for the first time at the end of the 15th century, the first collected edition appeared in 1508. - The first, "Pillarium" by Pantaleone di Confienza, is one of the earliest treatises dealing exclusively with pills as remedies for all kinds of diseases. He treats all kinds of aspects of pills, including their various (natural) substances of pills, their various forms (powders, tablets, tinctures, extracts, etc.), their physiological and pathological effects, the preparation and conservation, etc. - The second, "Summa lacticiniorum", by the same author, is the first treatise specifically devoted to cheese and Dalby calls it a "landmark" in the literary discourse for cheese. "It opens with a general section discussing the nature of milk and the range of products made from its, especially cheese; it outlines the variety of cheeses, relating them to the seasons, the climate, the origin of the milk and the methods of making and maturing. In part two Pantaleone surveys the regional and local cheeses known to him, beginning in his own native norther Italy, He continues his cheese itinerary through Savoie and across France, . 1526. ST. BENEDICT THE AFRICAN (RELIGION.) BENAGASI Y LUXAN, JOSEPH JOAQUIN. Vida del Poderoso Negro San Benitio de Palermo, Descripta en Dies Cantos Joco-serios del Reducissimo Metro de Seguidillas, con Argumentos en Octavas. Full-page engraved portrait of the black Saint, half-page woodcut head and tail-pieces; text within an engraved border. [xx], 1-136 pages. 8vo, original full vellum, with "Obras de Benegas" in ink on the spine; fore-edge of the front cover "nibbled" otherwise an exceptional copy. [Place, date.]first edition of this "serio-comic" life of San Benito of Palermo, sometimes called "Benedict the Black," or "Benedict the African." Benito was born the son of African slaves in Sicily in 1526. The present volume is a highly unorthodox rendering of the saint's hagiography, told in verse, "in the style of seguidillas" a song-form of flamenco! Benito was freed by his master when he was an adolescent and became a shepherd. At the age of twenty he met and fell in with a group of Franciscan monks. When he was first admitted to the order, the Franciscans made him their cook-how history repeats itself! And what a cook he must have been, because early references to him state that he performed "great miracles" while cooking, which may well have taken the form of herbal soups, teas etc. He was briefly made the head of novitiates, but was quickly returned to the kitchen. Benito was held in such regard that people came from far and wide; priests and theologians, and eventually the Viceroy of Sicily himself. Benito died in 1559 and was canonized by Pope Pius VII on May 24, 1 … [Click Below for Full Description]

1526-8. Titles of first and second parts within historiated woodcut borders, large woodcut printers device on verso of final leaf of first part, white on black initials in all three parts, some historiated in second and third. Roman, italic and greek type. 3 works in one volume. 8vo (150 x 100mm). 198, [2]pp.; 88ff.; 76ff. Contemporary parchment over pasteboard, title inked on spine (worming to spine and upper board, head of spine worn and lower portion lacking so lower spine band visible, staining to covers, corners bumped, lacking ties). Sammelband of Greek and Latin primers. The first part is the first edition of Froschouer's compendium of Greek grammar, comprising Zurich scholar Jacob Ceporin's widely-used Greek primer, Hesiod's didactic poem, Works and Days, and a series of Greek epigrams. Ceporin's textbook, first published in 1522, explored Greek grammar in all its iterations, and the text was a staple in schools and universities (Ladurie). Similarly, Hesiod's 800-line didactic poem was compulsory reading in German universities in the sixteenth century. The final part of this first volume, the epigrams, offered easily readable, bite-sized examples of Greek grammar and language, presumably intended to complement the instruction provided in the preceding sections. The second part is a Latin account of Roman priests and magistrates, written by the Florentine Andrea Fiocchi (1400-52) under the name of Roman historian Lucius Fenestella. In this, the second edition of these collected works (the first printed at Basel, 1523), Fiocchi's treatise is accompanied by that of Ita … [Click Below for Full Description]
