NEVIZZANO Giovanni da
Io De Moylin (ad impensis Vincentii De Ferrariis de tridino), 1524. In 4, cc. 174. [Click Below for Full Description]

HERMAN(N), Nikolaus
O.O. u. Dr. (Augsburg, J. Ramminger, 1524. 4to. 8 Bl.

[Click Below for Full Description]

He claims to be the only Roman ever to have undertaken such a work. It comprised 37 books in 10 volumes and covered over 20,000 facts on topics including the fields of botany, zoology, astronomy , geology and mineralogy as well as the exploitation of those resources. It remains a standard work for the Roman period and the advances in technology and understanding of natural phenomena at the time. Some technical advances he discusses are the only sources for those inventions, such as hushing in mining technology or the use of water mills for crushing or grinding corn. Much of what he wrote about has been confirmed by archaeology. ''W … [Click Below for Full Description]

BOETHIUS.
Venice: Ottaviano I Scoto & C., 1524. Venice: Ottaviano I Scoto & C.,, 1524. Folio (322 x 215 mm). Contemporary polished calf, red morocco label and two hand written paper labels to spine, spine and front boards elaborately decorated in blind. Bookseller's ticket to front pastedown, neat ink annotations to title page. Minor wear to extremities and a few marks to boards, hinges cracked but holding, a little foxing and dampstains to contents, an excellent copy. Second edition thus, with pseudo-Thomas Aquinas's and Jodocus Badius Ascensius's commentaries, first printed in Milan (c.1500). Boethius is considered "the fundamental philosophical and theological author in the Latin tradition" and "one of the rare philosophers whose thought, like Plato's, cannot be neatly separated from the complex literary form in which it is expressed" (John Marenbon, The Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy). The linguistically and philosophically intricate De consolatione philosophiae was vastly influential in the Middle Ages and remains of foundational importance to the modern philosophy of religion today. Badius Ascensius's predominately philological commentary for schoolboys was first published in 1498 and was extremely popular in the following decades; the commentary of pseudo-Thomas often accompanied Badius's in print.
