- 4 tomes en 4 volumes in-16. 10ff. 404ff. chiffrés. 9ff. (1f.blanc). + 442pp. 2ff. (1f.blanc). + 426pp. (i.e. 421). 5ff. + 595pp. 6ff. CODEX IUSTINIANUS -
Andree Boucard impressus; Impensis Johannis Petit,Thilman Kerver,, Paris. Paris, Andree Boucard impressus; Impensis Johannis Petit,Thilman Kerver, 1512,15. November, Quart. Titelblatt mit prächtigem Druckersignet in Rot-Schwarz-Druck, (3), 580, (26) gezählte Blätter. Halbleinen. [Click Below for Full Description]

Marcantonio Raimondi, also simply Marcantonio (c. 1480 – c. 1534), was a reknown Italian engraver, known for being the first important printmaker whose body of work consists mainly of prints after paintings. He systematized a technique of engraving that became dominant in Italy and elsewhere. Condition: Very good, given age. No margins. Remains of attachment to carrier to the rear of the sheet. GREGOIRE DE TOURS.
P., Josse Bade et Jean Petit [Johane Parvo], 1512, petit in-folio. 6ff.-CXXXIV f° (mal chiffré CXXXII). Signatures : Aa6, a-z6, &6, ?4, A-F6. Saint Bonaventure; Traut, Wolf.
First German edition and a remarkable contemporary coloured copy of the Legenda major beati Francisci, a masterpiece of German illustration, written by the Minister General of the Order of Friars Minor and Doctor of the Church, Saint Bonaventure (1221 - 1274), in 1260 and declared the only authentic biography of Saint Francis by the General Chapter in Paris in 1266. Saint Bonaventure ranks high as a Doctor of the Church, and one of the foremost philosophers and scholastic theologians of the middle ages. Die Legende des heyligen vatters Francisci was printed by Holtzel on behalf and at the expense of the Tyrolean benefactor of the Franciscan church in Schwaz, Caspar Rosenthaler. Holtzel was active as a printer in Nuremberg since 1499. In 1511 he printed Durer´s Life of Mary and employed as illustrators for his printings Durer´s foremost collaborators, such as Hans Baldung Grien, Hans von Kulmbach and Wolf Traut who was commissioned with the illustration of the present book. It ranks among Traut´s graphic masterpieces; some are dated, however non are signed.
