Lyons: Jacques Sacon, 1510. Extremely rare 1510 illustrated edition (probably a unique example) of Le Fevre's famous Troy Book, first printed by Caxton at Bruges about 1473-4, that being both Caxton's first book and the first book printed in the English language. Caxton's second book was the same work printed at Bruges in French, which may be the first work of French literature ever printed, and one of the first of any texts in the French language. The first edition printed in France is reported as at Lyons in 1486. The second edition in France is reported as printed at Lyons in 1490, the woodcuts of which are also found in the present edition and that of the abridged reprint of 1544. One or the other of the 1486 or 1490 edition may be suppositious, as both are cited with the same day of the same month ñ an error that might have arisen from a misprint "six" for "dix" in Brunet (Supplement to Brunet I, col. 814) and this being followed by Copinger in his Supplement to Hain. Albrecht DURER (Norimberga 1471 - 1528)
Al verso timbro duplicato del The Art Institute of Chicago The "Great Passio … [Click Below for Full Description]

Thomas Stanford, Euclid, n.5 e p.5: «... a very important edition appeared in 1505 printed at Venice by Joannes Tacuinus. It was translated into Latin from a Greek text by Bartolommeo Zamberti... The volume itself is a first-rate example of the Venetian book of the time. There is an elaborate title-page with the printer's well-known cut of John the Baptist at the foot. The first page of the text has a fine border, and the larger initials are a charming set depicting children playing. The enunciations are printed in gothic, the demonstrations in roman type. In 1510 some of the same sheets were reissued with a freshly printed last page containig the colophon, a misreading of which has often led to the issue being described as of 1517. Panayotova, Stella (commentary by)
London: The Folio Society. F. 2009. Hardcover. 2 Volumes: Facsimile volume bound in silk brocade, all edges gilt, ribbon bookmark bound in, internally clean and bright. Commentary volume bound in quarter cloth over boards with titles on spine and paper label bearing titles on upper board, 144pp, internally clean and bright. Two fine volumes contained in a clamshell box. , Created around 1510 probably in Bruges, the Fitzwilliam Book of Hours represents the last and most flamboyant period of manuscript production. By the early sixteenth century, the Book of Hours had become the quintessential text for private devotion, a corner stone of the European book trade, and the manuscript type that showcased the final, most exuberant phase of medieval and Renaissance illumination. The illumination was the work of four main artists. Two of them, the Master of the Dresden Prayer Book (act. c.1465–c.1515) and the Master of James IV of Scotland (act. 1487–1526), were among the most distinguished and influential Flemish illuminators active around 1500. Together with the elusive Master of St Michael, an equally inventive artist whose work outside this manuscript remains to be identified, they made impressive guest appearances. The rest of the manuscript was illuminated by the Painter of Additional 15677. He was also the manuscript’s designer and the manager of this ambitious collaborative project., 8vo 8" - 9" tall .

Trogo Pompeo - Giustino Marco Giuniano.
In-folio (305x205mm), ff. CXXV, legatura settecentesca p. pergamena rigida. Manca all'Adams e a STC Italian. EDIT16 CNCE 41122 (7 copie censite in EDIT16, di cui una mutila).

A PRINTED VELLUM LEAF WITH A VERY FINE, EXTREMELY LARGE ILLUMINATED MINIATURE PAINTING OF THE MASSACRE OF THE INNOCENTS, FROM A BOOK OF HOURS IN LATIN
Paris: Gilles Hardouin, ca, 1510. The massacre depicted here appears to be taking place in Herod's throne room, as if he had ordered it for his own entertainment. Seated in the center of the piece on a massive gold throne, he views the heartbreaking chaos before him impassively, ignoring an angry women who is lifting her bleeding infant up to him as if to say, "See what you've done!" The mothers here are not wailing in grief, but are angrily fighting for their sons' lives. In the foreground, a soldier pushes a golden-haired woman out of the way, in order to finish off the dazed and wounded infant she and her companion are attempting to shield. On either side, soldiers have raised swords to smite the helpless tots, and to the right of Herod, a bleeding infant looks pitifully up at the armored solder who holds him by the arm, ready to deliver the fatal blow. In the upper right, we see a baby impaled on a spear. A glimpse of hope through an open window mitigates the horror of the gruesome scene: we see Joseph leading a donkey bearing the Virgin and the Christ Child as they flee to Egypt, blessed by golden rays streaming down from heaven. The action here is dramatic, intense, and memorable; the colors are vivid, the heavy use of gold adding light to an overwhelmingly sober subject. The Book of Hours from which this leaf came must have been extraordinarily sumptuous.. 222 x 140 mm. (8 3/4 x 5 1/2"). Single column, 30 lines of text, gothic typeface. Attractively matted. Verso with elaborate metalcut compartmentalized border featuring mischievous putti and grotesques, the martyr … [Click Below for Full Description]
