MOLIN, Girolamo (1500-1569), Rime... Novamente venute in luce. Con Privilegij per anni XXV Venezia Comin da Trino 8vo (151x102 mm). (15, lacking the first blank leaf), 121 [i.e. 126, leaves 54, 63, 64, 107 and 108 repeated in numbering], (6) leaves. With a woodcut device on the title-page and at the end. Contemporary vellum, spine covered by a red paper with label and ink title, slightly rubbed and worn, a good and genuine copy. FIRST EDITION (variant issue in which the blank leaf Q7 is replaced by a bifolium containing a sonnet by Domenico Venier and the errata). The volume is dedicated by Celio Magno to Giulio Contarini (Zara, October 20, 1572) and also contains a life of Molino written by the painter Giovanni Mario Verdizzotti, a pupil of Titian. This verse collection represents a kind of summa of the Venetian neo-Petrarchism and contains at the end a 'tombeau poétique' in Molino's memory, including verses by Lauro Badoer, Girolamo Fioretti, Federico Frangipane, Giorgio Gradenigo, Pietro Gradenigo, Nicolò Macheropio, Celio Magno, Domenico Vernier, and some anonymous authors (cf. E. Taddeo, Il manierismo letterario e i lirici veneziani del tardo Cinquecento, Rome, 1974, pp. 73-91). Bulino, 1500 circa, firmata in basso a destra 'Petri de Nobilibus Formis'. Martin ZASINGER (Maestro MZ) (Monaco 1477 - 1509?)
APIANUS, Petrus.
First edition, in Latin and German, of Apianus's description of his newly invented sundial in the form of a poplar leaf. This instrument can be used to tell the hours of the day, the times of sunrise and sunset, and the so-called "Jewish" hours dividing the time between sunrise and sunset into 12 parts. The stunning woodcuts were executed by Hans Brosamer (ca. 1500-1554), with his monogram on the title woodcut next to the image of a woodblock cutter's knife. The title in the present copy is in an uncorrected state, with "RFCENS" and "RFDACTUM" for "RECENS" and "REDACTUM."Apianus (1495-1552), cartographer and professor of mathematics at the University of Ingolstadt, was a pioneer in the design of astronomical and geographical instruments. He set up a printing office in his own home in order to oversee his scientific publications. With wormholes slightly affecting the text and illustrations, but otherwise a very good copy and with generous margins. Lacking the final blank leaf, but with a contemporary fly-leaf at the front and another at the back. A pioneering horological work, beautifully illustrated.l Adams A-1289; DSB I, pp. 178-179; Van Ortroy, Apian 106; Zinner, Astron. Instrumente, pp. 233-234; cf. WorldCat (microfilm only).

Excellent example of a rare work. Bibliografia: Passavant I, p. 287, 459; Dutuit II, p. 111, 30. Dimensioni 40x40.

«[...] Enfin … [Click Below for Full Description]

Simon and Schuster LIVING HISTORY Hillary Rodham Clinton Limited Edition xxx out of 1500 SIGNED EDITION Signed by Hillary Rodham Clinton Book was never read and shrink wrap is still shrouded around slip cover. Book is in mint like new condition. Hillary Rodham Clinton is known to hundreds of millions of people around the world. Yet few beyond her close friends and family have ever heard her account of her extraordinary journey. She writes with candor, humor and passion about her upbringing in suburban, middle-class America in the 1950s and her transformation from Goldwater Girl to student activist to controversial First Lady. Living History is her revealing memoir of life through the White House years. It is also her chronicle of living history with Bill Clinton, a thirty-year adventure in love and politics that survives personal betrayal, relentless partisan investigations and constant public scrutiny. Hillary Rodham Clinton came of age during a time of tumultuous social and political change in America. Like many women of her generation, she grew up with choices and opportunities unknown to her mother or grandmother. She charted her own course through unexplored terrain -- responding to the changing times and her own internal compass -- and became an emblem for some and a lightning rod for others. Wife, mother, lawyer, advocate and international icon, she has lived through America's great political wars, from Watergate to Whitewater. The only First Lady to play a major role in shaping domestic legislation, Hillary Rodham Clinton traveled tirelessly around the country to ch … [Click Below for Full Description]

GUILLAUME DE NANGIS
France, c. 1450-1500. LARGE FORMAT MEDIEVAL CHRONICLE IN ITS ORIGINAL BINDING. In French, manuscript on paper, France, c. 1450-1500. Dimensions 280 x 205 mm, 403 folios, incomplete at end, vertical catchwords on all quires except xviii and xxv, leaf signatures first half of all quires, written by a single scribe in an expert Bâtarde script, red paraphs and two-line initials. BINDING: ORIGINAL BINDING of cushioned wooden boards covered with brown leather, stamped with four petal flowers and fillets. TEXT: Guillaume de Nangis, Benedictine monk and librarian at the royal Abby of St.-Denis, was the official chronicler of the kings of France responsible for the "continuations" of the Grandes Chroniques de France . Not only does this volume survive as an unrecorded witness to his translation into French of one of the most important medieval French chronicles, it is of extraordinary rarity. PROVENANCE: The manuscript was copied in the second half of the 15th century in France by an experienced and probably professional scribe as indicated by the Bâtarde script featuring documentary-style embellishments; multiple 17th-century signatures on the front pastedown and parchment flyleaf, all unidentifiable; verso of the parchment flyleaf, autograph note by Jean-François Du Guet (1660-1724) dated February 1703 describing the manuscript's contents and attributing it to his library; four French notes by three unknown 20th-century hands in ink inserted on small sheets of paper between folios throughout the manuscript. CONDITION: minor worming throughout, minor flecking and staining, limited … [Click Below for Full Description]

ANICIUS MANLIUS SEVERINUS BOETHIUS
Italy (Venice?), c. 1475-1500. RENAISSANCE COPY OF BOETHIUS'S CONSOLATION OF PHILOSOPHY IN ITS ORIGINAL BINDING. In Latin, manuscript on paper, Italy (Venice?), c. 1475-1500. Dimensions 210 x 140 mm, 70 paper folios, complete, two watermarks, vertical catchwords, ruled in lead, prose in one column, verse sometimes in two, written in an experienced Italian humanist minuscule, blank spaces and cue letters left for initials. BINDING: CONTEMPORARY ITALIAN BINDING of bare (beech?) wood boards with beveled edges, remnant of leather formerly pasted across spine and partially covering boards, original brass clasps inset on front cover. TEXT: The most widely copied work of medieval secular literature, Boethius's Consolation of Philosophy is nevertheless relatively rare on the market. This volume, lacking the gloss found in many contemporary manuscripts which marks them as schoolbooks, was perhaps copied for the humanist scribe's own use. PROVENANCE: Based on its humanist minuscule and watermarks, this manuscript was produced by a single experienced hand in Northern Italy, probably Venice, in the last quarter of the fifteenth century; large detailed manicula (pointing hand) on f. 3 added by a contemporary hand; early modern reader added a border of jagged scribbles around the textblocks of ff. 8v and 24v; inexpert hand adds "Jacopi ? che qui anno 1693 i Viterbo 1693" in runny ink on f. 29v, presumably a later unidentified owner, placing the manuscript in Viterbo; an undeciphered three-word note in nineteenth-century German kurrent script on pastedown (meaning is unclear), suggesting … [Click Below for Full Description]

PIEDMONT, Alexis of (Girolamo RUSCELLI).
260, [12]; 164, [11], [1 blank] pp.Rare sixth edition of the Dutch translation of an immensely popular book of secrets, compiled by Alexis of Piedmont. It is generally supposed that Piedmont is the pseudonym of the Italian humanist Girolamo Ruscelli (1500-1566), since Ruscelli mentions in a later work that he and other humanists had founded an "Academy of Secrets" that had published the Secreti. "Books of secrets and experiments had been prominent in medieval manuscripts and were to flare forth again in the second half of the [16th] century in the Secreti of Alessio of Piedmont, of which Ferguson listed 56 edition between its first appearance in 1557 [in Venice] and the end of the century" (Thorndike). It gives numerous "secrets", ranging from how to dye leather, to how to cure sick horses, clean paintings and whiten teeth. Besides these more convenient secrets, there are some occult passages, informing the reader how to dream wildly or how "to write letters on someone's skin that can never be removed". "No treatise better illustrates the popular or household practice of applied chemistry, of the arts, and of medicine..." (Ferguson). With a bookseller's ticket on paste-down. Somewhat browned, with a waterstain in lower right corner throughout, not affecting text, and some occasional spots and ink blots. A good copy.l J. Ferguson, "The secrets of Alexis: a sixteenth century collection of medical and technical receipts" in: Proceedings of the Royal Society of Medicine XXIV (1930), pp. 225-246; STCN (2 copies); Thorndike V, p. 147 & VI, pp. 215-216; WorldCat (3 additional copie … [Click Below for Full Description]
