Nuremberg; Anton Koberger, 1493. Original Nuremberg Chronicle leaf from the first (Latin) edition printed by Anton Koberger in Nuremberg, 1493. Folio (approx 15x12 inches) ; printed in 63 lines in gothic letter. Recto and verso decorated with several original woodcut illustrations of martyrs and saints. Minor worming to margin and light corner creasing, else fresh and clean. A very good example from the most noted book of the 15th century. The woodcut illustrations for this edition were executed by Michael Wolgemut, Willhelm Pleydemwurff and their workshop; Albrecht Durer, Koberger's godson, was apprenticed to Michael Wolgemut between 1486 and 1489 and it has been suggested by some scholars that he worked on the designs. The Latin edition appeared five months prior to a simultaneously planned edition in German.

The Nuremberg Chronicle is the most illustrated book of the fifteenth century and is a vast chronicle of world history from the time of creation to the time of publication, 1493. The work was in the planning stages for five years, and the printing took twenty months to accomplish. It was without doubt the most advanced and technically demanding work to be undertaken at the time. Interestingly the surprisingly complex lay-outs of both the Latin edition and the German translation edition which was published five months later, were actually planned simultaneously. They both use the same woodcuts, slightly differently placed in the text. It is believed that both were printed in a run of 1,500- 2,000 copies. The contract between Koberger and his financial partners, Sebald Schreyer and Sebastian Kammermeister, the contract between Koberger and the artists and two manuscript exemplaria (maquettes) survive in the Nürnberg Stadtbibliothek (Nuremberg City Library) with some other documents relating to the book, and give us a publication history which is unequaled by any other fifteenth century book. FIFTH EDITION. Articella was the name given to the early printed editions of a variety of medical texts, chiefly by Galen and Hippocrates, which formed the basis of lectures at the medical school of Salerno in the twelfth century and. The Articella grew around a synthetic exposition of classical Greek medicine written in Baghdad by physician and polyglot Hunayn bin Ishaq, also known as Ioannitius. His synthesis was in turn based on Galen's Ars Medica (Techne iatrike) and thus became known in Europe as Isagoge Ioannitii ad Tegni Galieni (Hunayn's Introduction to the Art of Galen). TERENTIUS...
Lyon, Johannes Trechsel, 29 Aug. 1493.
