In Venetia, per Plinio Pietrasanta, 1554. FIRST EDITION 1554, Italian text, edited by Girolamo Ruscelli, small 4to, approximately 205 x 145 mm, 8 x 5¾ inches, allegorical wood engraved title page, with a musician and a scientist, masks and putti plus a laurel tree with the motto 'Semper virens', some historiated initials, pages: (3), 4-172, (2 of 4) - colophon and errata present but lacking final blank, collation: A-Y4 (-Y4), C2 misbound before C1, bound in later full vellum, printed lettering and minor decoration to spine. Upper cover slightly bowed, title page slightly trimmed on 3 outer sides with loss of margins and very slight shaving to image at top edge, faint damp staining to title page continuing to page 27 and recurring occasionally, a small damp stain to lower inner corners from page 9-23, some pages lightly age-browned, very occasional small pale mark to margins. A very good copy. Sebastiano Erizzo (1525-85), was a Venetian nobleman and scholar, translator of Plato and author of a commentary on Petrarch.
