The History Of Freemasonry - Robert Freke Gould - 1880. 
- London - The Caxton Publishing Company, 1880 Book. Near Fine. Hardcover. The scarce three volume edition of Gould's comprehensive history of Freemasonry, illustrated with colour plates. According to the Grand Lodge of British Columbia and Yukon, Freke was, A lieutenant in the 31st Regiment, English Army and later a barrister from 1868, he is best remembered as an early proponent of the authentic school of masonic research and for his three-volume History of Freemasonry. Volume one contains a frontispiece, 12 plates of illustrations, and a page showing masons' marks. Volumes two and threecontain a frontispiece and 14 plates of illustrations. All the frontispieces carry the photographic portraits of notable masons. The colour plates show regalia and props etc. Freke looks to trace Freemasonry from ancient mystery cults to the present day. Collated: complete. Volume Two carries the list of illustrations for volume three - a mistake by the publisher. Condition: In half morocco with gilt titles and masonic designs to the front boards and gilt titles and detailing to the spines. Externally very smart indeed with very light wear and some fading to the spine of volumes I & II. Volume two has some marking to the rear boards. Volume one has light marking to the front board. Internally slightly age toned but otherwise generally clean and firmly bound. Overall: NEAR FINE.
