Winston S. Churchill, His Complete Speeches - Winston S. Churchill - 1974.
New York: Chelsea House Publishers in association with R. R. Bowker Company, 1974. First edition. Hardcover. During more than half a century of public life Sir Winston Churchill delivered speeches whose incisive wit, artful cadence, stinging criticism, soaring sentiment, and resolute defiance still echo today. This complete set of 8 massive volumes contains the vast majority of Winston Churchill's speeches from 1897 to 1963. The set is nearly 9,000 pages in length, takes up 18 inches of shelf space, and weighs 34 pounds. Before this incredible undertaking, many of Churchill's speeches had never been published in volume form. A great many of these impressive sets ended up in libraries, and consequently bear ex-library wear and markings. This is such a set, ex-library, but good plus overall, sound and with clean contents. Spine presentation is better than usual for an ex-library set, with strong red color marred only by the ghost of a removed sticker on each lower spine. Ex-library marks are confined to the page edges and final free endpaper, each page edge bearing a library ink-stamp and each final blank endsheet verso bearing a library card pocket and scannable sticker. The contents are otherwise clean, quite bright within with no other previous ownership marks or spotting noted. The Volume VI spine shows some concavity and the hinges are slightly tender with a 2.5 inch split to the binding cloth at the lower front hinge. Nonetheless, all eight bindings remain intact, still attached to their massive text blocks, most firmly so. Please note that this large, heavy set may require additional postage.
