This is the second, extended, edition of a work that presents one of the earliest English accounts of Abel Janszoon Tasman's 1642 voyage during which he visited Tonga and Fiji as well as discovering Tasmania and New Zealand. In addition there is a detailed description of Narbrough's passage in the Batchelour through the strait of Magellan into the South Pacific to Chile. This edition is preferred because it has the chart of the western and southern oceans , not present in the first edition, and also because of the additional text relating to whaling off Greenland.
