J.M. Dent & Co. / Charles Scribner's Sons, January, London / New York 1902 - 2 volumes in 1. Bound by Cedric Chivers of Bath, in his striking, hand-painted "Vellucent" binding. Full vellum painted a very pale green, bevelled covers and spine illustrated with clover designs, gilt lettered and outlined, all edges bright gilt, pale green marbled endpapers with gilt-ruled turn-ins, rear turn-in signed "Cedric Chivers, Bath". 18 cm x 10.5 cm, pp. xxii, 294; xi, 254. Profusely illustrated throughout by Brock. Each book with its own two-colour title-page and frontispiece. Ink signature dated April 1905 to front blank, else a magnificent specimen of a Chiver's Vellucent binding kept in wonderful condition by being housed in, what is now, a lightly soiled beige cloth slipcase. The spine of the felt-lined slipcase having a square "push panel" to assist in easily extricating the book.
