Generally considered the best book on the subject of the Mexican-American War (known as the Invasion Norte-Americana in Mexico) from the Mexican point of view. This is the first edition in book form, having first appeared in a newspaper. Bancroft praised the book, as it evidently shows that Roa Barcena had studied the sources both Mexican and American. Other scholars have praised it for its more favorable defense of Mexican resistance. He included a section on the history of the Texas conflict, which was the original cause of the war A fundamental text for the study of this war.
