New York: Random House, 1967. First Edition. First Printing. Octavo; black cloth, with titling and decorations stamped in red and silver on spine and front panel; black topstain; dustjacket; 278pp, [1]. Partial, rough erasure to previous owners ink stamp at half-title, else Fine in a Near Fine dustjacket, unclipped, with some trivial rubbing to corners. Thompson's first book, chronicling his year riding with the Hell's Angels Motorcycle Club and other motorcycle gangs, an "experiment" that ended when he was beaten nearly to death by a group of Angels. Written in Thompson's no-holds-barred style, and filled with drugs, sex, and violence, Hell's Angels continues to remain one of the best in the author's ouevre, and one of the few books that offers unprecedented access and insight into biker culture.
