Critics immediately recognized the opera's individuality, and the première. was Meyerbeer's first major success. There were further Italian productions, and the opera was staged internationally: in 1820 Weber produced his friend's work in Dresden, and in 1820 and 1821 it was also performed in Berlin, Vienna, Budapest, Brno, and Warsaw."
