Owl's Clover
The Alcestis Press, New York 1936 - New York: The Alcestis Press, 1936. First Edition. VG++ or Near Fine in VG++ or Near Fine jacket Signed by Author Printed orange wrapper over stiff wrapper. A lovely copy. This edition is notoriously fragile and most of the usual defects are absent here. The spine lettering is clear, with no sunning. Because the soft paper wrapper covers on this edition extended beyond the boundaries of the text block, some paper loss to the foot and head of the spine is almost inevitable. Here that loss is very minimal, just a tiny chip on the top and another on the bottom, the latter causing a 1/4 inch closed tear on one seam. There is one additional 1/4 inch closed tear on the jacket. These are minor nicks. No other splits or chips at all. No markings of any kind inside or out, just a touch of old handling discoloration. Colors are bright and clear. This is number 15 of eighty-five numbered copies on Strathmore all-rag paper, in addition to twenty copies on handmade paper numbered in Roman, all signed by the author. Nice clear signature by Stevens. Overall, VG++ or Near Fine. Book comes in a beautiful custom clamshell box made by the Heritage bindery in Los Angeles. Box is full Japanese cloth, burnt-orange in color (black on the edges), that nicely matches the book. Marbled boards inside with orange highlights. The book rests on a built platform, also marbled. Leather spine on the label. Photos available upon request First Edition. [Attributes: First Edition; Signed Copy; Hard Cover]
