THE ART OF PROLONGING LIFE
J. Bell 1797 - First edition in English in the same year of publication as the original German first. 2 volumes [220*137 mm.], XXIV, 274, [2] and VIII, 331, [1] pp. So complete with halftitles in both volumes, publisher ads on recto of [2] in volume I. Original [see pub ad in Lewis, The Castle Spectre, 1798 and pic] grey boards and white paper spine [now age darkened and some minor worning, see pic]. UNCUT. Extremely rare in trade and unprecedented in original boards. Constantijn Huygens died in 1687 aged 91 and also many of my ancestors [having been well to do Groningen farmers] died at ages over 80 also before 1800. The concern of Hufeland is that people, once having survived high child mortality, could increase their chances to belong to those privileged by following the sound advice coming from Makrobiotik. PROVENANCE: the Gedeon collection, his bookplate at fpeps.Terschner Bibliothek, stamp verso titles. [Attributes: Hard Cover]
