"On the Relative Motion of the Earth and the Luminiferous Aether" (The London, Edinburgh and Dublin Philosophical Magazine and Journal of Science; Volume 24, pp. 449-463)
London: Taylor and Francis, 1887. First Edition. Three Quarter Leather. Fine. First printing, outside of the United States, of Michelson & Morley's experiment that disproved the earlier theory of "luminiferous aether" and that light was carried through space on that aether. This experiment and debunking of the luminiferous aether theory was one of the building blocks that led to Einstein's theory of Special Relativity. This paper was published in the same year as it was in the American Journal of Science. vii, [1], 524 pp. 8vo. Recent brown three quarter leather bindings with five raised bands at spine, burgundy and black title patches with gold embossed titling, gold lines offsetting bands, marbled paper insets to front and rear boards. Clean within.
