London: Pelham Richardson, 1844. Hardcover. Near fine. 8vo. Signed binding of contemporary half maroon morocco by R. H. Porter. Spine in six compartments, gilt titles and vignettes, raised bands tooled in gilt. Pebble-grain maroon cloth sides, all edges gilt. Bound without Plate I, "Moselekatse", with Plate IV, "The Gnoo" used as frontispiece instead. 24 hand colored plates, engraved and hand colored title as well as a typeset title, folding map in rear. And this edition contains the two extra chapters. Experts consider this the first big game hunting books written and an essential title for any African sporting collection.
