Humble, Texas As It Stands Today! The Greatest Oil Producing Field in the World! Five Times Larger and Many Times Greater Than Spindle Top! Over 50 Gushers and More Coming in Every Day.
Denver, Colo.: The Rocky Mountain Securities Co., 1905. - 4to., (10 ¾ x 8 inches). (First two leaves with 1-inch chips to upper right corners). 9 photographs (original folds as mailed). Original publisher's printed paper stapled wrappers, as issued. First edition. EXTREMELY SCARCE promotional pamphlet issued by the Rocky Mountain Securities Co. and Texas Oil & Land Co. to advertise the oil fields found in the town of Humble, Texas, located in Harris County. Humble became a boom town two years after the Spindle Top discovery in Beaumont, Texas, helped by railroad linkage in 1904. This pamphlet was intended as an appeal for investors, emphasizing the fiscal soundness of the enterprise. Today, Humble still survives as an oil-producing town. The photographic illustrations show wells and gushers in the region of Humble, Texas, each with a caption. They are all identified and dated in the negative, indicating the photographs were taken in January, February, and March of 1905. "Shallow oil production began in 1902 with a big oil gusher occurring in 1904. Humble became a tent city, overflowing with people as well as oil. Oil discoveries continued to mount. By 1905, the Humble oil field was the largest producing field in Texas. The Humble Oil and Refining Company (now Exxon Co. USA) was formed by local entrepreneurs" (City of Humble online). Very rare, with only one copy recorded in WorldCat.
