1936. UTZ, William Henry. BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCHES OF THE BARTLETT MARSHALL DUNCAN AND HENRY UTZ FAMILIES. Arranged & Edited by W.H. Utz. St. Joseph, Missouri, 1936. 8vo., black cloth, stamped in gilt. Although not stated, apparently only 200 copies were printed. Signed presentation from William Henry Utz on the front pastedown: "Presented to D.A.G. Ouzts by William Henry Utz Jr. Attorney At Law. St. Joseph, MO. June 5th 1944." Then inscribed in another hand: "From Miss Flora A. Outzs," and then inscribed in another hand: "From Mrs. Bessie Morgan, Edgefield, SC, July 5/ '44." A rare book, especially when inscribed by the author. The biographies of two pioneer Missouri families who settled in the Platte Purchase, near Old Sparta. Also contains letters and information during the Civil War. Two Utz family members joined the Confederate Army and letters included are from prison by John H. Utz, who was arrested in a foiled plot to attack federal troops in the state after the war. Very Good (little edgewear & rubbing). $750.00.
