The Ascent of Everest
London: Hodder & Stoughton 1953 - Original blue cloth with pale blue dust wrapper. There is a tipped in sheet of hotel note paper (from the Le Chalet hotel, Jersey) with the title "Everest 1953" (written by Hunt). It is then signed by John Hunt, Alfred Gregory (member of the team, and photographer) and E. P. Hilary (who reached the summit). The wrapper is clean and bright, but has a little marking, mainly to the rear panel. There is slight fading to the spine. There are a couple of small closed tears to the head of the spine. The book itself is clean and bright, with a touch of fading to the spine. Internally clean and tidy throughout. The signatures are clear, in three different inks to the hotel paper. John Hunt was the 1953 British Everest expedition team leader. He died in 1998 aged 88. Gregory was responsible for many of the photographs of the expedition, and made it to 28,000 ft in support of the expedition (he died in 2010 aged 96). Hilary made the final assault with Sherpa Tenzing and was they were the first to reach the summit. He died in 2008 age 88. [Attributes: Signed Copy; Hard Cover]
