Idylle printaniere.
Paris 1933 - Quarto (32.5 x 25 cm). Title and 30 hand-coloured lithographed plates by Rojan in window mounts; slight creases to title, repaired tear to one mount. Original publisher's cloth-backed printed portfolio, ties; spine renewed, slightly rubbed, some light spotting. Celebrated erotic production of hand-coloured plates by this talented émigré artist, published in a limited edition of 310 only, this copy being number 21 on Verge paper. Fedor Rojankowski (also Rojankovski or Rozhankovsky), known as 'Rojan' (1891-1970) was born in Poland but lived and worked in Paris in the 20s and 30s. He was best known as the illustrator of 'Le Pere Castor', an enormously successful children's book of the period. His other artistic endeavours were, perhaps, less well-known but no less appreciated: Rojan regularly illustrated erotic fiction, with art, a light freshness and taste. His drawings have graced the poetry of Raymond Radiguet and Pierre Louys. Elegant and daring, Rojan describes here, without words, a spring romance which begins in the Paris metro, goes on in a taxi before flourishing behind the curtains of a hotel room, in more privacy and with less frantic urgency. Originally entitled 'De Montparnasse a Pigalle', this art-deco masterpiece has lost none of its original fire and brilliance. [Attributes: Hard Cover]
