[xiv], 15-133, [3] pp. Twelve mounted color plates with captioned tissue guards and numerous line drawings and black and white illustrations in the text.Publisher's parchment over beveled boards, front cover and spine pictorially stamped in gilt, pictorial end-papers, top edge gilt, others uncut. Spine slightly darkened, some foxing on preliminary leaves and plate margins (not affecting color plate) otherwise an excellent copy of one of the very best of Charles Robinson's illustrated works. The twelve color plates are quite remarkable and amongst the very best that Charles Robinson produced. The stories by Oscar Wilde are: The Happy Prince; The Nightingale and the Rose; The Selfish Giant; The Devoted Friend, and The Remarkable Rocket."Charles Robinson became one of the most popular illustrators of children's literature during that prolific period spanning the transition from the nineteenth to the twentieth century.
