New Map of Illinois with its Proposed Canals, Roads and Distances from Place to Place Along the Stage & Steam Boat Routes
H.S. Tanner, [Philadelphia] 1841 - Hand colored map [44.5 cm x 35 cm]. Map is in nice condition with the counties colored by hand. Map has tables on the left and right side giving steam boat routes and their distances to and from St. Louis. There is an inset of the lead regions of north western Illinois and south western Wisconsin This map shows the Mormon metropolis of Nauvoo on the banks of the Mississippi river, and a short distances away, Carthage. This is one of the first maps to list Nauvoo, as opposed to Commerce, which was the name until May of 1840.
