George Allen. London. 1894 - FIRST HUGH THOMSON EDITION. 8vo. (7.5 x 5.2 inches). Fully illustrated throughout with 101 fine engravings by Thomson. A bright copy bound in recent leather binding of full tan morocco. Spine with five raised bands. Red and green labels, the labels and compartments ruled, decorated and lettered in gilt. Single gilt ruled border on boards. All edges gilt. Original publishers decorative Peacock design dark green cloth front board and spine bound in at the back of the book. Previous owner's neat inscription, dated November 1894, on the half title page and a little spotting to the first and last few pages but overall clean and fresh. A near fine copy of the scarce first Thomson edition in an attractive full leather binding. Hugh Thomson illustrated this work for George Allen publishers before going on to illustrate the other Austen books for Macmillan & Co. This is the scarcest of all the Thomson/Austen titles in first edition. [Attributes: First Edition; Hard Cover]
