A Beatles dress worn by a programme seller at the World Premiere of A Hard Day's Night, London Pavilion, 6 July
1964 1964 - White linen dress printed with turquoise and black, featuring portraits of the four Beatles above their facsimile signatures and a musical stave with the title lyrics from "I Wanna Hold Your Hand". Signed across the front in blue ink by each of The Beatles: John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr, and by their manager Brian Epstein. The premiere of the Beatles debut film A Hard Day's Night was attended by the Beatles and their wives, as well as guests of honour Princess Margaret and Lord Snowdon. The premiere was a charity event and the film was shown in aid of the Variety Club Heart Fund and the Dockland Settlements Charity, an organisation which established and ran youth clubs and community centres for the residents of the more deprived areas in the East End of London. This dress was one of a very few items of clothing provided to the 12 teenage programme sellers, including Philippa Whitaker who has written an accompanying letter informing how she was given the dress and subsequently got it signed at the reception later that evening by the Beatles. Together with a photograph of Philippa wearing the dress.
