The Future of Sculpture.
Pigotts Eric Gill 1928 - Octavo. 118pp. One of 55 copies printed in the office of the Lanston Monotype Corporation for Eric Gill. Illustrated with a device printed in red to the title page, and a large wood-engraved map of Pigotts in red on the colophon page. Gill first presented this essay as a lecture at the Victoria and Albert Museum in December, 1927, and it was first published in Artwork magazine in Spring, 1928. This is Walter Shewring's copy, with his David Jones-designed bookplate on front paste-down. The bookplate features the copper engraving "S. Francis and the Wolf," used only for this bookplate. It is an early Jones copper engraving and the bookplate appears very infrequently. Bound in black cloth-covered boards, gilt-titled to spine. Corners ever so slightly bumped, else a fine, bright copy with equally fine provenance. (Evan Gill; 16, Physick P556; Cleverdon E128). [Attributes: Soft Cover]
