Tess of the D'Urbervilles
James R. Osgood, London 1891 - Three volume first issue set in original cloth. The boards are quite rubbed and bumped, slightly tender at the hinges and with minor damage to the cloth, there look to have been labels to the front boards at some point in the distant past, almost certainly those of a circulating library. The text blocks are slightly age toned and dusty, with minor foxing and marking to some pages, a neatly written name and date to the front pastedown of each volume and a tipped in photograph of Hardy to the half-title page of volume one, the bindings are also slightly cracked at points. Hardy's best loved and most controversial work, the first edition is seldom found in the original cloth. [Attributes: First Edition; Hard Cover]
