The Ancient Music of Ireland, arranged for the Piano Forte. To which is prefixed a Dissertation on the Irish Harp and Harpers, including an account of the old melodies of Ireland.
Dublin, Hodges and Smith, 1840. Folio. Pagination: Three titlepages (10 unnumbered pages in total with a beautiful engraved, multicoloured Frontispiece), 100 pages of Harp - Dissertation -text plus XI pages of "Index to the Irish Names of the Airs" and "Index to the English Names of the Airs". In the rear of the Volume a separate chapter with songs set to music: 4, 109 pages. Original Hardcover. Original cloth with gilt lettering on spine and large gilted harp ornaments to frontcover. Floral decoration to spine and cover. Excellent condition of this original 19th century edition with only minor signs of external wear and some mild browning and foxing to the interior only. Very rare publication and even rarer in this unusually wonderful condition. The best version of this book we have seen so far. Addition: Loosely inserted to this volume is an original, 3-page article that was published in "The Crown" on July 19th, 1906: "About Irish Harps and Bards" by S.J.Adair Fitz-Gerald.
