ondon- James Smith 1822 - This is a charmingly illustrated edition of this famous fishing text. Often called the Gosden edition as it was thought that it was published at the expense of Gosden, the sporting bookbinder. In a classic Regency original binding. Izaak Walton was an English writer who, aside from this well known text, also wrote a number of short biographies that have been collected under the title of Walton's Lives. Some further notes on fishing in an early 19th century hand to front blanks. Condition: In a full calf binding. Externally, sound with some rubbing and bumping to extremities. Binder's label to front pastedown. Ink inscription and pasted image to recto of front free-endpaper. Pencil inscription to recto of rear endpaper. Internally, generally firmly bound. Pages foxed throughout, heavier in places. Neat copperplatewriting across front blanks with tipped in illustration of fly fishing with gift inscription dated august1888.
