Royal Oak, MI & Mission Viejo, CA: A.S.A.P. Press, 1998. First Edition. Deluxe Issue, one of 12 copies in a design binding and case by Marilyn Bonaventure, signed by Crumley, Lise McClendon (author of the introduction), Phil Parks (illustrator), and Marilyn Bonaventure (binder) on the limitation page. Octavo; binder's full deep brown pigskin, with titling and decorations stamped in blind to front cover, with red, white, green, and mustard-colored leather onlays; publisher's quarter leather clamshell case, with titles stamped in gilt on spine; [14]; 39pp; [10]; photographic frontispiece of Crumley and an original Phil Parks print mounted in text. Fine in a Fine clamshell case. The Mexican Pig Bandit" is a mystery short story featuring Crumley's best-known character C.W. Sughrue, and bridges an important gap between Crumley's novels. A transitional story, it shows Sughrue's transformation from private detective into a Montana badass, and also explains the reason behind traveling south of the border. The story was later anthologized in Otto Penzler's "Murder and Obsession" (1999). Easily the most limited volume in Crumley's body of work.
