Our Destruction in Pictures
Bergen-Belsen: "Our Voice", 1946. First edition. Softcover. g. Oblong quarto. 38 pp. (actually 76 pp., as only alternating pages are numbered). Original illustrated paper wrappers. Title pages in Yiddish, Hebrew, English, and German. This rare, disturbingly poignant gathering of Holocaust images might best be described in the words of the editors: "The incentive to produce this collection gave us our deepest desire to show the world the crimes of Germany, to give expression to the throttled cry of pain of the Jews, to the sighs of our fathers and mothers, sisters and brothers, during the frozen nights of winter and the overpowering heat of the summer which was spent in sealed railway trucks, the desire to bring back to our memories of the Jewish settlements which were drowned in torrents of Jewish blood". This work is profusely illustrated with 115 photographs which were predominantly taken from captured Nazi soldiers. Each photograph has its caption in Yiddish, Hebrew, English, and German. Some age wear on wrappers with front cover partly torn and chipped. Ex-library copy with library sticker on top of front cover and at bottom of spine. Library stamp on top of first title-page, and library pocket at bottom. Minor creasing and age-toning throughout. Wrappers in overall poor, interior in good to very good condition.
