1927 - London: Published by Leonard & Virginia Woolf at the Hogarth Press, 1927. Original blue cloth. First Edition of one of Virginia Woolf's best-known novels. It is a prime example of Woolf's stream-of-consciousness technique, as Marcel Proust and James Joyce had recently pioneered; with little dialogue or action (it relates to visits of the Ramsay family to the Isle of Skye during the 1910s), the novel consists of much philosophical introspection, especially relating to childhood emotions.~This is a very good-plus copy (spine a little dull as usual with this color cloth, very light rubbing at the extremities, minor foxing to some leaves). Now that TO THE LIGHTHOUSE in its dust jacket has become a $10,000+ (if not $20,000+) book, the novel without a jacket has become a reasonable alternative for many collectors. Kirkpatrick A10a; Connolly's Modern Movement #54 ("the height of her luminous impressionist vision"); #15 on the Modern Library list of the 100 best novels of the 20th Century. [Attributes: First Edition; Hard Cover]
