THE WOLF'S BRIDE: A TALE FROM ESTONIA
London: Jonathan Cape, [1930]. First edition. Page edges dusty, covers are mottled, a very good copy in a very good dust jacket with age darkening to the spine panel, some loss to head of spine panel. Jacket also shows dust soiling, some stains to rear panel with a small chip from lower right rear corner and a short closed tear to lower rear panel. (13981). Octavo, [1-8] 9-114 [115-116] original blue-gray speckled boards, spine stamped in gold, rear cover stamped in blind with the publisher's colophon. A novel of lycanthropy unaccountably dropped from the 1978 Bleiler Checklist. Although herself a Finn, Kallas wrote mainly about her husband's country, Estonia. These two countries, together with Hungary, belong to the Finno-Ugric language group, a linguistic anomaly unrelated to the Indo-European family. Bleiler, The Guide to Supernatural Fiction 1767. Bleiler (1948), p. 166. Reginald 08046.
