La Case de L'Oncle Tom. Traduit et AccompagnÈ de Notes par M. LÈon Pilatte . . . et d'une Introduction par George Sand
Paris: Librairie Nouvelle, 1853 - 8vo, 19th century black quarter calf, black paper boards, gilt lettering. Portrait and 25 plates. Half-title present. ? Translated by Leon Pilatte and one of several French translations that claimed to be published with the permission of Stowe. This one is somewhat different in that there is an important contribution by one of the most prominent French women writers of that era, George Sand. Edges rubbed; text moderately foxed; later ownership stamp on the half-title and title-page. BAL 19361; Hildreth, page 33; OCLC records four copies (BL, BL, UCSB & Bibliotheque Nationale) "New" edition of this French translation, but it is the first edition with the preface by George Sand.
