Mathilde von Guise, Huymmel's only published opera, was first performed in Vienna at the Kärntnertor on March 26 or 27, 1810. It was revised and performed in Weimar on February 17, 1821.. Oblong folio. Half dark ivory paper with dark orange patterned boards, paper label with Beethoven's name to upper. 1f. (recto title, verso blank), 1 (cast list and table of contents), 2-84, [i] (blank), 2-67, [ii] (blank), 2-37, [i] (blank) pp. Engraved. Uncut. First page of music with "Maelzl's Metronome 92= [eighth-note]" printed to upper margin. With handstamps of the Haydn Museum and "F. X. Ascher's Musikalienhandlung" in Vienna to title and upper board. Annotations in blue crayon in a late 19th- or early 20th-century hand to title and first page, erroneously attributing the text and music to Beethoven; occasional pagination in blue ink in a later hand. Binding somewhat worn, rubbed, and bumped; lower more heavily bumped. Slightly foxed internally, heavier to several leaves; occasional light soiling to lower corners. A very good copy overall.
