New York: D. Van Nostrand ., 1862. THREE VOLUMES UNIFORMLY BOUND. Spines lettered in gilt. Some occasional brown spotting and toning of the paper, but generally quite a clean little set. Volume 1 with 32 plates, Volume 2 with 36 plates, and Volume 3 with 29 plates. A total of 97 plates, most are folding, collated complete. Several plates show some weakening and browning at folds, but all are complete. Volume 1 is subtitled "Schools of the soldier and company, instructions for skirmishers and music"; Volume 2, "School of the battalion"; Volume 3 , "Evolutions of a brigade and a corps d'armee". All three volumes are signed in ink on the front free endpaper, "1st Lieut. A.C. Post (sic), Rome Ga, Sept 10 1864, Co. A, 81st Ohio Infty". The 81st Ohio Infantry was organized as "Morton's Independent Rifle Regiment", mustered in for three years, first duty at Benton Barracks, Missouri. Saw action at Shiloh, Corinth, Atlanta Campaign, Kennesaw Mountain, Jonesboro, Siege of Atlanta, Sherman's March to the Sea, among many others. They were on garrison duty in Rome, Georgia Sep-Nov 1864 when these volumes were signed. A well-preserved little set, a fine addition to a Civil War or military history collection. 279, 279, 183 + adverts.. Firrst Edition.. Green Embossed Cloth.
