Novum Testamentum - Juxta Exemplar Millianum Typis Joannis Baskerville
Clarendon Press, Oxford University 1763 - Rare. Printed from the Greek fount specially designed by Baskerville for the University Press. Only two books were printed from this type - the octavo (this one) and the quarto Testaments. Some of the matrices are preserved at the Clarendon Press. Baskerville (1706-1775) was the most acclaimed printer of his generation, producing a series of types subsequently named after him and still in use today. The text of this copy is in very good, tight, clean condition, with hardly any age-browning, other than the very light toning on the blank end papers. The 18th Century tree-calf binding is in good condition for its age, the hinges cracked but the boards are still firmly attached. Some wear at the top and bottom of the spine. Contrasting red leather title panel on the spine. Size approx 234 x 150mm. 676 pages. A heavy book which might require extra postage and insurance above the ABE base rate, according to destination. See photographs attached. [Attributes: First Edition; Hard Cover]
