The Drifting Cowboy
Charles Scribner's and Sons, New York 1925 - The Drifting Cowboy by written and illustrated by Will james, a Western writer and cowboy, convicted cattle rustler ( 2years in prison) and legionary individual. He published his first writings in 1922 and his first major novel Smokey the Cowhorse. The Drifting Cowboy is profusely illustrated with over forty full page striking black and white drawings. The story centers around a cowboy named Bill who tries every other job but the cowboy jobs and finds that he is, whether he likes it or not, he is a cowboy. The book is fine, quarter bound in brown cloth over very nicely illustrated boards. Spine lettering is fine. Book is square and tight and unmarked. The publishers seal is on the copyright page as it is with first issues. At the end of the preface, there is a signature of the author. However I think it is printed into the page and probably is in all copies. The scarce dust jacket , is priced jacket (3.50) bright, and nicely though extensively repaired. The spine on jacket is missing and there is small loss at the verso. This is a rare and wonderful collectible, for the serious collector of Western literature. Protected in Mylar. [Attributes: First Edition; Hard Cover]
