Die Griechische Buchmalerei
Druck und Verlag der Osterreichischen Staatsdruckerei, Vienna 1926 - A milestone in the study of Byzantine manuscript illumination, C. R. Morey of Princeton University referred to it as "the best treatment of the subject of Byzantine illumination to date." This very large folio set includes a text volume with an excellent bibliography as well as a separate portfolio of 28 facsimile plates, 8 of which are in color and expertly matted. Not only is this an important volume for the study of Byzantine illumination, but it is a very fine example of the quality of Viennese bookmaking in the 1920s. Large Folio (51 x 38cm). 2 volumes. Text volume bound in quarter white cloth with pictorial boards. Small water stain to upper margins of text. Portfolio volume is a drop-down box bound in quarter cloth over pictorial boards. Slight wear to spines. Both volumes housed in a slip-case. Overall a very good set.
