Original green cloth, blocked in black and gold, spine darkened, slight lean, front free endpaper excised; very good. The first novel from the bohemian Australian writer Marcus Clarke, author of perhaps the greatest Australian novel, HIS NATURAL LIFE, and "a pioneer in the development of the Australian short story and ... a shrewd observer of urban manners" (ODNB). "Set in England, [Long Odds] deals with themes of politics, class, property, inheritance, and sexuality" (ibid).
