A court reporter's transcript of the proceedings of the Court Trial between the Ordo Templi Orientis (plaintiffs) and Society Ordo Templi Orientis (Defendants) which took place in the U.S. District Court of the Northern District of California, before Charles A. Legge, Judge, May 1985.
NP., NP (USA) - Softcover. Three Volumes. Quartos (8 x 11.5 inches) 980 pages/leaves (the verso of each leaf is blank). Each volume with plastic comb binding and transparent cover sheet, and card backing sheet. Bound photocopies of the transcripts of the momentous San Francisco trial, in which Grady McMurtry's Ordo Templi Orientis defeated Marcelo Motta's Society Ordo Templi Orientis in a challenge over the rights to the Order's name etc. Not only do the documents present a fascinating history of the proceedings, but they have much material on the history of the groups themselves in the form of witness testimony, excerpts from letters and other documents, etc. Tangentially there is also considerable information on the printing history, print-runs etc. of the various publications that they made or authorised. Marcelo Motta annotated some of his testimony - putting in corrections, elaborating on points etc - and then had them photocopied. Sets of the copies were made avaialable - at very high price to help defray the legal costs - to a small number of senior figures of the S.O.T.O. and their fellow travellers. Consequently they are extremely scarce - indeed this is the only one that we have ever seen. The full title of the action was "Grady McMurtry, William E. Heidrick, Phyllis Seckler, Helen Parsons Smith, William Breeze, Francis I. Regardie, James Wasserman, and Kenneth Anger, individuals, Ordo Templi Orientis, a corporation, and Thelema Publications, a Business entity, Plaintiffs, vs. Society Ordo Templi Orientis, a corporation, Thelema Publishing Company, a corporation, Marcelo Ramos Motta, and individual . Defendents." Civil No. C-83-5434. Some light wear, but overall VG + condition. [Attributes: Soft Cover]
